Are you prepared to wear a mask when you have a cold or flu in the future?

The social distancing and mask wearing really helped keep influenza numbers down in the US over the past winter. Are people willing to adopt the mask to protect others when they know they are sick now that most of us have them? Or are they likely to throw theirs away once they are allowed into stores without them?

I hope becomes more acceptable.

I remember flying to a week long conference and the people behind me on the plane (two adults and a kid) could not stop coughing. I knew I was sick by day on the fourth day of the conference and by day five I was taking plenty of drugs (antihistamine and sudafed) to hide it. I knew I was getting everybody sick but what could I do? I had to give my sessions and socialize.

I would have worn a mask if it was more socially acceptable. I know in other countries, people wear masks when they are sick or allergies. Maybe we'll get there.

I wore it before the pandemic when I was at work and had a cold. I hate people who are sick and don't.

Nope.
We need to let our immune system get stronger and quit trying to suppress it

{@vicidraco] that is a good i dea actually may reduce the amout affected by the common cold and flu . i still think you will get opposition from the anti maskers . 🤷‍♂️ why will they willingly wear a mask to protect against a common cold when they refuse to wear them to protect against a killer like corona virus

i plan to wear a mask in public, and distance from here on out. it's not hard to do, and i'm used to it. the flu is harder to catch, so the covid measures really worked for flu.

If I ever have a cold or flu I'll just stay indoors because generally when one is ill, they don't feel like doing much anyway.

sure. Although...I imagine if no one is wearing a mask and I am then that signals I’m ill and then people will avoid me 👀 much more than they’d need to when it’s just a cold. so it probably won’t be as easy and common as people are saying now. So maybe id think twice about some places in practice where there are people I need to talk to

That'd be nice. It was normalized ages ago in Japan. I doubt it will take off in the United States, though. We live in a country of people so Stockholm Syndrome'd to inhumane working conditions that half of them openly take pride in being "tough" or "hardworking" enough to come into work sick (and infect all their coworkers).

Do you know on seeing this post, I've realised since the pandemic I've not even had sniffle, cough or cold.

Hmmm

To ans Q ..no I wont wear mask
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Kae20 Because everyone else is wearing a mask and protecting you.
Kae20 · 56-60, FVIP
@iamonfire696 I certainly see the logic in that . Except Ive been around ppl who weren't wearing masks

However the fact that most ppl are would certainly have something to with it.

Folk have also remarked on how much pollution the have been prevented from beathing in some frequently changing paper masks during the day.

When you consider each year 300,00 plus city dwellers die in the UK

From breathing in pollution.

Makes sense why the japs & Chinese wear face masks as standard.

I rarely catch a cold, if I do feel one coming on I get it kicked before it kicks in.
The last time I had the flu was over 15 years ago when I got the flu shot.
There'll be no need for me to wear a mask.
Of course people won't be so considerate of others to wear a mask when they're sick. Most people will toss their masks out as soon as they can.

How do you know that social distancing and mask wearing were the cause? Might it not have been that the flu virus was overwhelmed by covid 19?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
We are going to weaken are ability to fight the common cold in my opinion. Some weak ass virus is going to wipe us out in the future.
SW-User
Nope, never had the flu, never worried about it and that won't change
SW-User
Sure.
I've been wearing a mask in public spaces since the beginning.

we already wearing masks over a year for cold and flu
TheBannibalOne · 61-69, M
No I will stay home instead.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
Yes. I have allergies.
I had actually gotten into the habit of wearing masks while the air quality was being damaged by wildfires, and found them helpful. It’s why I already had several masks when the pandemic began.

Yes I will wear a mask. I don’t think masks are going to go away in some settings like healthcare.
