What is a major “I’m getting old” moment you’ve experienced?

I made a pop culture joke about the Olsen twins with someone who is Gen Z and he responded with “Who the hell are they?”

As somebody who grew up wearing their clothing line, cosmetics, and perfumes from Walmart, read so many of the book series based on the adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley and consumed so much Mary-Kate and Ashley media, I couldn’t fathom living in a world where younger adults wouldn’t know who the fuck they were anymore when they were such a big part of my childhood and early pre-teen years. I had to lie down for a moment after that one.

I have just come from my daughters 46th birthday party. And relative ages, who was older than the internet, and things like what was "Classic rock" were subjects that rolled around the table all night..As a Boomer I got extra credit for knowing the House of the rising sun, and extra hugs for being the last grandparent standing. (My wife in care wasnt there)😷

I have had many, many going back decades. But recently it has been in connection with an oral history project I am working on regarding the housing I lived in while going to university in the 1950's. Having other alums from as far back as the late 70's reacting with surprise to things like switchboards, housemothers and lockouts for the women in gender-segregated houses, mandatory ROTC for men, ad infinitum is a reminder that "You've come a long way, Baby". Ah, yes. And the catch phrases. You can look it up, as Casey Stengel used to say. You can Google him and his sayings as well.

Having pain so bad I could not sit down at all, but could only eat, use the computer, etc., while standing up. I'm so thankful spinal decompression surgery gave complete relief.

One of thighs is killing me i asked my boyfriend if he'd massage it. It only happens when its cold so i know its arthritis it feels better when i stretch so i will do this dance every morning . I haven't even been 52 for three weeks and my body already needs some roadside assistance.

Watching football and recognising a name of a young player and wondering if he is a son of a famous player from my youth, only to find out he's a grandson.

Played football ⚽ for 45 minutes on the beach; ankles, knees and thighs screamed for the next 3 days
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Elessar Well, at the end of his carreer, he was mainly there as a dangerous artilery piece when the referee stopped the game. But... I doubt you can pull that off either. 👬
deadmoon · 31-35, F
@Elessar Beach days are NOT the same after 30! Just walking from the sand all the way to the water felt so long and left me sore for days. I don’t remember it feeling like such a struggle when I was younger, but I was dying over there.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@deadmoon So far I'm handling that well, and also swimming. It's the football that kills me, and to a lesser degree volleyball lol

CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Idk, I'm 33 and I barely know who they are. But it's true that I know them as a meme though.

I feel like I’m aging when I pull muscles, and they hurt much longer than they use to
Ferric67 · M
@deadmoon that is an indication of low hydration/electrolyte levels
deadmoon · 31-35, F
@Ferric67 Yeah, that has also gotten worse with me with age. I swear I need more and more water to feel hydrated these days.
Ferric67 · M
@deadmoon are you on Meds? Certain medications can have that effect.
Generally speaking, the volume of water your body needs is comparable to your weight in kilograms or half of in pounds.

Grandkids, the 9 year old boys, say he is not allowed to fight old people
deadmoon · 31-35, F
I have a new one to add now.

You know a lot of the alternative rock music millennials grew up listening to from 2000-2010 (Staind, Breaking Benjamin, Nickelback, Shinedown)? Yeah, Gen Z calls that “divorced dad” rock now… 💀

Little kids have fucked up ideas about what "old" is.
