Knee pain anyone?

Hurts on the inside of my left knee. If i sit it hurts. If i lay down it hurts. Putting a pillow under it while i'm on my back. Feels better after i walk a bit but then hurts more after i stop. Ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen don't do much for it. Afraid to go in to the doctor as they usually are pretty worthless and just send you a big bill. Icing it kind of helps. Wakes me up. I need zero G.

My knees have been through it all. Injuries in high school, destruction in college, both knees scoped, finally had both knees replaced. When the pain gets to where it is affecting what you do, you need to see a doctor. Steroid injections help my wife with her knee.

You may have torn a tendon(s). If so, the treatment will depend on the severity. It might be anything from simple physical therapy to draining fluid around the joint, to steroid injection(s), to a scope and cleaning out of the joint, to a total knee replacement, or combination of treatments. No one enjoys doctor visits and certainly not doctor bills, but your knees and your mobility are too important to ignore. Maybe reconsider and make an appointment to see the doc. If you have torn something, it will not heal on its own, and you might even make it worse. Good luck.

@LadyBronte went to TRIA orthopedic. Xrays looked ok. Put me on some exercizes and a brace. Wait a month and see how it is.

@Tastyfrzz Glad to hear it. That is an excellent start. Be sure to go back in a month - you may need further treatment if the exercises are not helping.

@Tastyfrzz Take care of your knees and I do hope that everything that you are doing improves them. The braces and exercise sounds great.

My left knee flared up yesterday evening as I was sitting down in a chair. Before that it was fine. I'm going to go to urgent care this afternoon. I'm wearing a knee brace and using a cane to help me walk. It's painful. It looks swollen.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Diotrephes The pain in my left knee is almost gone. I've been using Voltaren arthritis pain cream that the urgent care doctor recommended.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@Diotrephes started using it today.

@Tastyfrzz It seems to be working fine for me. I hope it works for you. They do caution not to use too much.

I suffered knee injuries frequently in the service.

Here's what worked for me:
Ice 20 minutes 4x daily for the swelling.
Gentle walking or swimming if you can so it doesn't stiffen up.
Elevate your leg with that pillow for swelling.
Try diclofenac gel, i found it worked better than advil.
You can try compression sleeves but I hated them.

Hospitals are $$$ expensive gamble but you need your knee - so if you see a Doctor be direct and specific with eight core things:
1. Pain on a scale of 1 to 10
2. Specific location of pain
3. Estimate how long it's been hurting
4. What are you doing when it hurts
5. Tell them the pills you tried that don't work
6. Tell them if ice or heat helps (or not)
7. You can't rest, or you can't sleep, or you can't get up, etc..
8. Tell them history of your injury (new? recurring? etc..)
Important : Write down when it hurts most, what helps, how it affects daily life, etc.. like a diary.

Doctors love specificity and data (diary). Don't be vague "it just hurts" etc.. not helpful

Good luck

Get it xrayed. You may have something wrong inside like a lose but if mincus( Knee cartilage) can be very painful.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@justanothername yeah, it's just a spot on tge miniscus. They have a compression thing tobwear and say to keep walking, etc.... if in a month it still hurts to get an mri. Not sure how tgey patch them.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Tastyfrzz I can tell you from my own personal experience that any lose bit of tissue floating around in the knee joint will give you constant and often excruciating pain. The only solution is to have an arthroscopy (surgery) and get it removed. I’ve had 3 in my life time.

It’s the equivalent of having a small bit of road grit lose in your shoe. You won’t get any relief until you take it out of your shoe.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@justanothername they didnt see any in the x-rays.
