Anyone here ever treated for severe constipation?

My sisters diabetes is causing another bout of severe constipation for days. She went to urgent care today and they told her since Miralax didn't work, take stool softener, an enema and Metamucil fiber..she's afraid of the strong Miralax did not work, that these new treatments won't too. Anyone ever have any other med/treatment?

Enema/suppository is kind of a last resort, but that has been what's worked for me when usual laxatives didn't work. I don't know how severe my case was in comparison, but it was several days without going and painful stomach cramping. By that point I figured a laxative was probably not going to cut it.

@Anthony450 you do have to be careful with those ,because it can cause ruptures if you have a severe blockage ,you might want to discuss with your doctor first beforeusing.

The miralax is what they prescribe for colonoscopy prep so yes that's good

This happened to me once and I remember reading that women can assist by pushing from the other side if you get my meaning - google it....

If she is on the injectable weight loss type drugs ozyempeic, mounjaro, ect... it can cause severe constipation.
I have never had constipation severely( and I've been a diabetic since I was 44) until I tried those types of drugs.
Not worth it to me.

@Justmeraeagain She's type 1, so is not on those. Ty for your idea❤
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Coralmist yes type 1 is a whole different thing
Castor oil or prune juice. I used to be cronically constipated all the time back when I used to be a heroin addict. Now I’m 6 years clean lol.

@BalladOfADeadSoulja well done👏
I've had quite a story with constipation and fecal impaction. Now I live on lactulose orally, I it after lunch daily.
More on that here:

I use Restoralax daily. I used to take Metamucil. A better diet with fibre and dark leafy greens should help.

Tell her to start taking a tablespoon of olive oil every day. It takes a while to work, a week or so. It's also great for your joints.

Boron and magnesium are really helpful for that…magnesium needs to be magnesium citrate
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@cherokeepatti I just bought her magnesium Citrate!! Ty🌸
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Coralmist I went on a keto diet and it really messed with slowing down my digestion. I had to get off of it. I heard about boron and it was very helpful.

Theirs a thing called isabgol which is a husky of a plant so very safe could try that supposed to have it with curd
reubles · 41-45, M
Magnesium citrate. Grab a bottle at the pharmacy
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@ronisme1 Is it a pill? Did you take just the recommended dose?
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@Coralmist small bottle, drank the whole thing. Bottle size of drinks on planes. I had gone 7 straight days and hurt alot
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@ronisme1 Yes she's at seven days now too and in pain. I'll tell her, thanks 🪻
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
The pharmacist told me to drink the entire bottle of Miralax.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
No, i generally go in the other direction.
GovanDUNNY · M
She will probably end up visiting a hospital once a week to get flushed out
GovanDUNNY · M
@GovanDUNNY They might train you to do it at home.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
What about not eating and just drinking lots of water until it passes
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones She's not eaten in three days now, and drinking enough, yet was today in horrible pain. So she's trying all these treatments together...
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
@Coralmist when I say drinking I mean like drinking a gallon of water a day perhaps with some orange juice or lemon or lime juice in it.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones Yep she drinks close to that. It's Bec her case is typically worse than a regular person...it's her high sugars which cause it as well. So normal treatment doesn't help as much
colace.. like 6 of them
did you hear about the constipated mathematician?

...he worked it out with a pencil 🤓
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Get her to a GI person.
Tell your sister to start listening to Donald Trump on FoxNews. Before long, she'll be sh*tting through the eye of a needle from 40 paces.
@swirlie no, that just makes you vomit!😆😂🤣
@Guardian
What does? Watching FoxNews or listening to Donald?
@swirlie Either!🤣
