Have you ever had a major surgery?

If so, was it for medical or personal reason?
GLITTER · 36-40, F
I had two Mastoidectomys and tympanoplastys removing cholesteatoma’s and rebuilding my ear drums. It was a pretty intense thing to go through
Oh yes. I fell and broke my upper arm and shattered my shoulder. I had to have a shoulder replacement. That was a couple years ago. I did just fine with the Lord's help. I took care of myself and did everything myself at home. The physical therapy sure was rough but other than that I did really well and I was proud of myself. Cooking was rough. Trying to crack eggs with one hand. Haha

There was something when I was a baby. my bowel and bladder had switched around or something...

Had a Brain Tumour removed when I was 8. I had 27 staples in my head because of it. Which the nurse removed rather painfully. And some Screws are still present.

I've had a couple of infected ingrown toenails that needed to be incised so it didn't go gangrene. Not major surgery I know. But once the anaesthetic kicked in I helped the Doctor as he cut into my toe.

I don't know if this counts since it wasn't me the surgery was done on. But I helped the Doctor stitch an Old guys arm back together. He had fallen and hit his arm on the door handle. Ripped the skin and flesh right off his bone. Luckily his arteries remained intact or else he would have been a goner.

Yes, I had half of my thyroid removed. I had developed a goitre which, had it not been attended to, would have eventually asphyxiated me. The consultant told me 'it was the size of an orange'. It had started to become noticeable but I hadn't realised it was that big!

there as an unexpected side effect of all this. It might have been the anaesthetic, but I didn't poo for about four days afterwards. I was thinking: 'I must be bound to go sometime', but my innards had shuddered to a halt. I was beginning to forget what it was like when I went - eventually - and was somewhat relieved.

Medical. Broken leg just immediately above the knee cap. Surgery was needed to put two pins in.

Tonsils removed as a child.
Stitches in my chin; reset scapula; wrist in plaster following car accident as a teen.
Spinal surgery to reset a disc and close a fluid leak as a 50+er.
@Picklebobble2 Stitches is not surgery. 🙂

Gallbladder removal.

A procedure on my ear where they drilled through and injected special long acting steroid drugs.

Or and a vesectomy but wouldn't class that as major surgery as I was awake throughout.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Surely, it is for both reasons?

I've had my knees replaced, which I think is counted as "major" although very common; but not (touches wood) treatment for cancer or heart disease.

No major surgeries yet, only minor. My future is likely to see major surgery though. 80% chance on current odds. I might put my face in a blender before then though 💥
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
I’ve been put under for a few things but nothing I would call major (like a valve replacement)

I had an elective frontal lobotomy after being told by a reliable source that I knew too much about everything.
@swirlie some people just won’t listen. They can take the brain from the woman but not the woman from the brain.

@Sojournersoul
I know! I know! So few of us get that!
@swirlie you are the exception to the rule
