Yes, I had half of my thyroid removed. I had developed a goitre which, had it not been attended to, would have eventually asphyxiated me. The consultant told me 'it was the size of an orange'. It had started to become noticeable but I hadn't realised it was [i]that[/i] big!

I was thinking: 'I must be bound to go [i]sometime'[/i], but my innards had shuddered to a halt. I was beginning to forget what it was like when I went - eventually - and was somewhat relieved.
