Tell her that she and the rest of the class are the problem, not your daughter. Your daughter knows she is in school to learn. If the teacher can't teach or the students can't learn because of a french braid running down your daughter's back, then it is THEY who need to change tactics, not your daughter. Braids are apprpriate for females (and/or males) at ANY age.

Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Nevermind that some women don't cut their hair for religious reasons. What a gross overstep. Do not cut that little girl's hair.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed The only way I'd cut her hair is if she wanted it
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
Ask the English teacher if they are an English teacher or a fashion stylist. Then ask to be shown in the book of school rules where it says teachers decide pupil's hair length.Maybe you can file a complaint with the school board.Suggest the English teacher shaves their head bald and see how they like being told how to wear their hair.Offer to bring clippers and a razor in so you can shave the English teacher's head personally.

Wtf? No. Your daughter can wear her hair how she wants.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Sounds like the only one distracted is the teacher.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@smileylovesgaming Sounds like jealousy too.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
Wow, thanks everyone. I wasn't sure how this post would go but I'm glad.

My daughter hair is never messy or dirty. Like I said she always keeps it clean and styled.

I emailed the teacher kindly telling her to not to worry about her hair.

She answered back saying my daughters choice of hair style breaks the rules. She said children aren't allowed to have crazy hairstyles or hair color. She said she was going to bring this to the attention of the principal.

I told her go ahead lol.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Cigarguy101 Did she identify the rule that is broken by a female having long hair? I suppose the kid with a nose ring and purple hair aren't distracting at all. How about the boy who pretends he's a female today so he can get in the girls locker room? Distracting?

WTF happened to our education system?
TexChik · F
@Cigarguy101 Karen is an English teacher too ?

This teacher is way out of line. What's next? "Your daughter is too pretty. Ugly her up some, would you ?"
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Don't know why this is even a issue. Yet I just heard a similar story on the news about boys hair causing him to not graduate.

Something weird is certainly going on in some schools.

Hair just shouldn't be a issue for any kid. By teacher or school board.
Report the message to the school board and ask if you need to contact your attorney or will these messages stop.
Say that the teacher has dramatically overstepped their boundaries.
How your daughter wears her hair is her business and her family’s.
Ontheroad · M
That's a lot of horse manure. Tell the teacher to... well, not that, but tell her your daughter will wear her hair as she sees fit.

Also, tell her if it distracts other students, then it's their problem, not hers.
AbbySvenz · F
Sounds like the teacher needs to send notes to all the parents of the students too distracted to learn….
@AbbySvenz nice one
likesnatural · 70-79, M
Unless your daughter is violating the school dress/hair code, tell the teacher it is not her business.

No, don't cut it. As long as it is clean and she likes it, it can't be hurting anyone in class.
I have never heard of "age appropriate" hair !!!
CheshireAzur · 36-40, F
Respectfully ask to see any policies that the school might have. If no policies, then tell respectfully that teachers have no authority to say what hair length and style is appropriate for a child, and that if the other children are distracted, then a talk with them is needed.

@Cigarguy101 Yes. You should definitely have a meeting and discuss what your experience has been with the teacher, and again, raise the concern that teachers have no authority to tell parents about a child's hair preference.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@CheshireAzur And the teacher shouldn't encourage bullying. If students pick on her or make comments it's not his daughter who should change the it's the other kids who needs to be taught a lesson. Call their parents.
redredred · M
Ask the teacher what part of grammar covers tonsorial issues
TexChik · F
I would be suspicious of her unnatural concern for your daughter’s appearance . If there is no issue with the schools dress code policies concerning the hair length requirements of its students, I would consider having a recorded meeting with the school’s principal and request your daughter be placed in a different class.
more like the teacher is distracted and jealousy some teacher wil sexualize the girls sooo much this just one example of hate towards girls fuck that is just hair she aint naked so no harm done dam school make up reasons .....
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@Elizabeth28 your probably right. This teacher was short gray hair.

Id respond simply "pound sand" and adendum the note with continue this shit and im reporting you for bullying a student!
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@DiegoWolfe thankfully she wasn't said anything to my daughter.
DiegoWolfe · 36-40
@Cigarguy101 She is bullying her still by telling you to cut her hair its bullshit
HannahSky · F
Unless you're in a private school where they have rules about hair length, she really has no business saying anything about her hair.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@HannahSky she goes to public school
Myself11 · 61-69, M
Tell her you appreciate her opinion but your daughter and you don’t have a problem with it
Ignore it or tell her to fack off. What a weirdo.
How in the actual fuck can zomeone'z hair being in a braid be inappropriate or be "too long" for their age, juzt wtf dudez-

[TRANS 4 THE Z = S TYPING QUIRK 4 PEOPLE THAT CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT!]
How in the actual fuck can someone's hair being in a braid inappropriate or be "too long" for their age, just wtf dudes-
calicuz · 51-55, M
Tell that teacher that your childs hair has nothing to do with her education and that, that teacher should focus on giving thorough lessons in class and worry less about the way students wear their hair or how they dress as long as the attire is appropriate.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Ask her for more details. Unless the hair style clearly contravenes a school rule or the length is likely to be dangerous in the playground or in PE, she shouldn't really be making thise comments.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl it was a simple French braid. I took a few pics of the meeting tomorrow. She's in middle school now so they don't get reses.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Cigarguy101 Hopefully there is just a misunderstanding. I wish you luck in the meeting.
id be goin to the principal or the school board to deal with this and most likely have my child moved to another class.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@YourMomsSecretCrush I have a meeting at 9:00 tomorrow
Your child's teacher can go fuck herself.
