My daughter's hair

My daughter was very long thick black hair. It comes down past her hips. Her choice not mine. She keeps it washed brushed and styled. Most days she has it in a French braid. Yesterday I got a email from her English teacher asking me to cut her hair. She says it's much to long from a child her age, says a braid is not age appropriate and her hair is distracting to the other girls in her class.

I don't even know how to respond to this email. Wtf

Respectfully ask to see any policies that the school might have. If no policies, then tell respectfully that teachers have no authority to say what hair length and style is appropriate for a child, and that if the other children are distracted, then a talk with them is needed.

@CheshireAzur I did. They emailed it to me. There is nothing about hair at all. I'm not very happy about this. I'm meeting with the school tomorrow

@Cigarguy101 It's very concerning of a teacher to ask of a student to dress or have their hair a certain length only because other students can't "concentrate"

@Queendragonfly Agree. Like the teacher can't have a talk with the other students and their parents about not being distracted by how other students prefer their hair?

@Cigarguy101 Yes. You should definitely have a meeting and discuss what your experience has been with the teacher, and again, raise the concern that teachers have no authority to tell parents about a child's hair preference.

@CheshireAzur And the teacher shouldn't encourage bullying. If students pick on her or make comments it's not his daughter who should change the it's the other kids who needs to be taught a lesson. Call their parents.
