Is treadmill walking as good as outdoor walking?

Trying to find a long enough extension cable and dragging the treamill all around the neighborhood is such a pain. Best to leave it in the basement and walk indoors.
@Majorlatency Thanks for BC Lily. I can at last demonstrate to my family that I achieved something with my life!

My exercise bike makes a great clothes hanger. 😬

@Degbeme always the way eh 🤭

🤔.........I'd say yes. Maybe better since you can adjust the speed. It all comes down to what type of surface your walking on and the shoes you're wearing. Walking is good for a person. Running is the best exercise for burning calories, but the worst exercise because it's high impact on you body. it's hard on your joints..........Before my heart condition and I was in great shape, I mean I was thinking about training to compete in a 1/2 Iron Man. I ran out doors and I use to run all the on the treadmill. Turn on the Avalanche game and run an entire period, Take a break during intermission and then back on the treadmill for another period.........

@Jimmy2016 I was a runner for about 15 years and YES I fucked my joints up. Especially my knees and hips. 😩
Lilymoon · F
@Jimmy2016 Wow... ok and thank you
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
@DearAmbellina2113 Sorry to hear that! I hope you're not in too much pain!! It's so hard on your joints.

I use to run 26 miles a week along with biking 110 miles and swimming 2.5 miles a week but not any more because of my heart. I would have to start from scratch again to get to that point again..........

It might be as good physically but it isn't nearly as nice as walking outside. I love walking on a rail trail near here and I'm eager to be able to do that again.
Lilymoon · F
@SW-User Oh yeah for sure I agree... but the physical part is probably the same.
sciguy18 · M
As long as it gets your heart rate going, should be the same. The practical matter is whether you would use it more than actually walking outside.

I like treadmill walking at lunch time and walking outdoors after work. If it’s rainy and miserable I walk and type or walk and watch on the treadmill. I generally listen to podcasts and type when walking after work.

Why wouldn't it be? Exercise is exercise wherever it is done. If you have one in your home, on privacy, some say exercising nude actually burns more calories.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Oster1 true, it is a joy to be out in the open air, but exercise quality, calories burned arr calories burned wherever.
Oster1 · M
@samueltyler2 Nope, in all respects, I still disagree! Fresh air, sunlight, hormone production, uneven surfaces, mental stimulation and direction, ambient temps and conditions, weather, etc., have way more caloric burning efficiency effects, than indoor static exercise, ever could! 😊
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Oster1 I would prefer walking in a forest, or on the beach. If in private, clothing optional.
Oster1 · M
No, but it's still exercise. 😊🌺

@Lilymoon Oh my! How could any one member here, ever be more honored!

You will always be my bestie, even in afterlife! No one else, ever bonded with me, to that extent!!!

All, over Cilantro!!! I'm cooking with your Basil plant, tonight! 🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘

Is washing your feet with your socks on as good as washing them when they're off???
Lilymoon · F
@Fullmetal LMAO 😅
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Idk but I prefer it because I can stay in the AC while walking. 😌

How many city sidewalks have been recalled
Lilymoon · F
@MarineBob haha!
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
No. You get to improve your memory and cognition skills by outside exercise.
popmol · 26-30, M
no it hurts my feet more!
Lilymoon · F
@popmol I'm thinking probably not as good as outdoor but still good 😀
popmol · 26-30, M
@Lilymoon even ground is your friend, outside has uneven, potholes, stones that will try every conceivable way to get in your shoe and hide until you can bear no longer!
Lilymoon · F
@popmol true dat 🤭
It's not bad and you can utilize the incline for more muscle action
fun4us2b · M
Depends on the weather!
okaybut · 56-60, M
For exercise yes...for the brain...no.
Usually, no. The day one gets run over by a bus is different.
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
I reckon no - because it’s bloody boring…
What do you think?
Lilymoon · F
@Oneofthestormboys Yeah I use it at the gym so it's not quite as boring but yeah I'd probably rather go outside but I never get around to it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Synyster Yeah for sure... all the machines are different. I usually try to do about 10 of them 3 time each for about 10 reps takes me about half an hour and I'm done.
Synyster · 51-55, M
@Lilymoon
That’s great and good time management.
Geez on chest day I’m there for 1.5 hours. 🙄
Lilymoon · F
@Synyster holy crap 😄
I’ve used it as a substitute during bad weather, and you don’t have to worry about crowds or traffic.
But being outside is more fun.
It has advantages during bad weather.
