Downvoting

Some members will remember a controversy some time ago about the introduction of the "downvote". Most members who commented were opposed, some very strongly, but the management ignored us, as usual. I have just been downvoted, for the first time. I found it an unpleasant and offensive experience. I suppose it could have been a mistake, but if it wasn't, I challenge the person who did it to have the courage to explain what he or she disliked about my comment.

@KeyserSoze I find that an offensive comment. And I disagree with you. It is a personal attack. Ignore a comment or post that you don't like by all means, but if you insist on expressing your disagreement explain why. And why did you bother to respond? My post was directed at the anonymous person who used the downvote, though I am grateful for many other kind responses.

It’s just a downvote, not a personal attack. Maybe take a moment to reflect instead of making a whole post about it. Not everyone owes you an explanation for why they didn’t like your comment.

Don't worry about it. If you get even one like that cancels out any down votes.

Also if you get three or more different types of likes, no one will even know about it.

How does one even know if a post has been upvoted or downvoted? Most people just 'block block block' when they feel personally offended instead of being an adult and moving on.

If you have VIP you can see who it is and call them out in the post. Let everyone know who did it.

@Gibbon It is funny how SW tries to discourage arguing yet at the same time, does stuff that encourages it.

I can just hear the admins saying to all of us, "Hey someone DV'ed you, but it is a secret who did it. If you give me some money though, I will tell you who it was!"

They ultimately WANT people to bicker because they knows that draws the most attention.

@Softandsweet2 That's OK, thanks. My point about SW (the only social medium I use) is that there isn't much unpleasantness and it's usually easy to avoid it by blocking people you take against. It's precisely because I feel this is the place for me that I dislike the downvote, which seems to me to go against the culture of the place.As others have suggested, I should probably relax!
