My aunt called me bougie today because I asked her to take off her shoes before she entered.

Does she have a point? Am I bougie? What's your opinion?

Hey your house your rules
SW-User
That doesn’t make you bougie, that makes you someone who likes clean floors. 🤨
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@SW-User Yeah, walk around in those stinky socks! Or put on those "visitor's slippers" and catch trenchfoot from the last person to wear them.
No, i never wear my shoes in the house.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
I think it's annoying when someone invites you over and makes you take off your shoes. It sets a negative tone and makes me not want to go back. I usually bend over backwards to make guests feel comfortable.
SW-User
@DailyFlash They'd feel more comfortable with their shoes off.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User my guess is she didn't like being told what to do by her niece. And took it out by calling you a name. If it's your rule it's your rule. I do remember a quote from Madonna saying she'd rather take off her top than her shoes since she had dancer's feet. Lol
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@DailyFlash oh so if you dirty their floor with your shoes I hope you clean it then. 😂 wtf
smiler2012 · 61-69
@SW-User 🤔first of all what an earth is a bougie when it is at home lol but no you have expected your auntie too do what others do when they visit your home. they are you house rules too any visiting guest and should be respected .
@smiler2012 Bougie is a informal word for highfalutin. 🙂

What's bougie?
@Crazychick because it become an outdated word in Europe.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Crazychick no clue. 😅
Ask others not to as well.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Weird. Where and when I come from (S.W. England) we never wore shoes in the house. But things do seem to have changed a bit in the intervening half century
Bowenw · 61-69, M
Different cultures have different rules about that. She shouldn't have said what she did.
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F
No people like saying that for fun. Shes probably teasing. I get called bougie and i know im not, i laugh.
@mooncrest02 are you sure? Lol
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F

It’s more sanitary and a common and reasonable request.
pdockal · 56-60, M
I'm barefoot as soon as i enter my home and so should visitors
Nah.. I don’t consider that bougie … I know people who do that and I’d never thing they were bougie!
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
But what if it was slippers? Flip-flops?
SW-User
@FreestyleArt That’s fine.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
You let her in your house? 😳
SW-User
scooogy · 31-35, MVIP
I don't even know how to pronounce that 🤔
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
No idea -- never had that happen.
SW-User
Your house your rules.
shakemeup · 36-40
I'd just turn it back on her and say, "That's right, now take off your shoes please. my roomba gets cranky if people leave a mess on the floor"
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
As I'm from Asia it's considered the height of rudeness to wear shoes on my fresh, daily cleaned floors.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
How do you know how many Albertans there are in a house? Go to the door and count the number of shoes and divide by 2. Here it is customary that you take off your shoes.
TempuraShrimp · 26-30, M
My family doesn't do that we keep shoes on. Which kinda makes us weird for sn Asian family

@SW-User Dior, well, that is going to be hard to eat when you need a snack.

I SUPPOSE you COULD fill it with snacks, but, mon Dieu!, that would be a tad low class for Dior, n'est-ce pas?? 😉🤣🤣🤣
@SW-User (Do they make bag sauce so that bags can be properly grilled and eaten?)
SW-User
Wonder what she’d call you if you asked her to take off her knickers 💁‍♂️
Just curious 🧐
SW-User
@SW-User Creepy. Lol
SW-User
@SW-User It would be fun to see her reaction though 🤣😂
DADDYDEAN · 61-69, M

@Matt85
I would have been like "well when me and the sheep like the house to be clean"
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
How does that make you bougie?
