Although I've had a few chats that run for a while, I've rarely met anyone I really feel sympatico with here.
There's the problem of time differential between Aus and US - 13 -15 hrs depending on longitude and daylight saving. It's literally a night and day, or sleeping and waking, difference. To try to stay up late to connect in real time means ending up sleep deprived.
Plus, I think sites like this encourage superficial responses - tend to reduce the chances for deep, intelligent or emotionally intimate conversations.
Even sites like Quora, which started with an emphasis on intelligent exchanges, have deteriorated into the banal.
I think it's the nature of the Net, with the exception of closed groups formed (away from these public sites) around specific needs or goals.
