We have tons of good bacteria that we need to make our bodies run right especially for digestion and the immune system.. Sanitizer kills them all indiscriminately and is really not good to use at all

SW-User
Use plain soap & water. Don't use sanitizer frequently, not good for skin.

SW-User
Oversanitizing stifles your immune system. It's good to get dirty

@Dan193 George Carlin had a great bit on that. Said as kids they swam in the Hudson which had raw sewage. They were so immune polio wouldn't even come to his 'hood
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User impressive, I've heard of cases like that too

SW-User
@Dan193 He goes into a bunch of things anti coddling. Dead on point as always
SinlessOnslaught · M
I used to wash my hands so often that my hands looked like zombie hands. Eventually I got tiny fractures in my skin so every time I washed, they would sting and shake. Same thing happened if I put on lotion.
This is something you need to work on, Bro.

@Dan193 For being more neurotic then or for being less neurotic now? 😆
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SinlessOnslaught yeah, for losing some of that neuroticism. I feel like I might have some as well :'D
SinlessOnslaught · M
@Dan193 You can beat it.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I had a real problem with washing my hands too much when the lockdown began. But I found some good liquid hand soap that killed cooties and it went away. I don't think sanitizer is a good solution to the problem though sometimes I use it too. I like the clean smell.
This may sound silly but go and put some honey on them and let it sit there a few minutes and the burn will go completely away
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
It's awful for the hands... I do it because I have to and I already had problems with the skin of my hands, especially during winter it's on another level though... At least get a cream to moisturise them frequently, it will help.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut other people recommended moisturiser as well, and I'll start doing that. Somebody said that the burn could be because of applying alcohol on dried skin, which totally makes sense.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Dan193 after using it so much your hands are bound to get dry and even bleed sometimes, same with washing them with soap too frequently.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut yeah, thankfully it never got to bleeding

SW-User
So, all that alcohol and chemicals are being absorbed by the skin and into the blood circulation all day long? Great. Keep “sanitizing?”

SW-User
You can get drunk if you drink it because the stomach and intestine lining transfers alcohol into the blood stream faster then skin. @MrSimons But it is doing it’s damage anyway
MrSimons · 41-45, M
@SW-User I would never advocate drinking it! I sometimes use it but certainly not 5 to 10 times a day!
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User I really don't think is a good idea to drink it. There are different types of alcohol, and the one they use in sanitizers isn't the same as the one we drrink. That would straight up poison u. And alcohol does evaporate in seconds.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
Try putting milk on them… to soothe
I know it sounds weird

Dan193 · 31-35, M
@WaryWitchWandering I wish I had some rn. Will know for future
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
@Dan193 if you have coconut oil or aloe, that could help ease it as well
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@WaryWitchWandering it's getting a bit better now

SW-User
Have you always been like that ? Or is it because of the pandemic ?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@SW-User I agree. Before the pandemic, people were just gross in general. The ex assistant manager at my local 7-Eleven told me about a guy once who stood in front of the roller food, reached in with his bare hand, picked up a hot dog, looked at it, and then PUT IT BACK ON THE ROLLER!

SW-User
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@SW-User Needless to say, the guy got trespassed for that.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Sounds like OCD. Perhaps you should get help.
Fluffybull · F
@Dan193 It's not just covid I'm wary about, it's colds and flu. Hub's going into hospital on Wednesday and he can't get any infection. I'm just being careful for a while 👍
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Fluffybull you're doing well. I hope he gets the treatment he needs 💖

SW-User
You know sanitizing loses its .. effectiveness after so much use .. try soap and water .. and use hand lotion like chicks do .. makes your Hands soft and smooth! 🙂
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User 😂 you do that? And thanks
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
I'm like you still sanitizing no matter what.
Use a paper towel, glove or cloth next time you sanitize then moisturize your hands afterwards

Too much sanitizer can dry out your skin. It could also lead to a contact dermatitis from the chemicals.

Well go to the hospital and bring the bottle with you. or if there is a 1-800 number on the bottle call it.
Fluffybull · F
You must be sensitive to one of the ingredients?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Fluffybull or maybe it's too strong 🤷♂️
you just need to moisturize regularly
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@lovelywarpedlemon thanks, I'll do that
arent your hands extremely dry as well
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@PepsiColaP I wouldn't say extremely. They should take that into account I think, when producing hand sanitizers.

SW-User
Why don’t you just wear gloves that way no chemicals touch your skin, they in turn lower your immune system
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User I used to actually. That's an interesting thought
Spoiledbrat · F
Maybe your skin is dry. Try lotion.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Spoiledbrat good thinking
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Do you have OCD by chance?
No judgement. I have OCD, although my obsessions aren't around contamination or hygiene.

Dan193 · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 makes sense. How do u cope? Is it possible to do it without medication? I'm a bit against taking taking pills unless it's life thretening. I prefer to find ways to get my body to heal itself.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@Dan193 CBT, specifically Exposure and Response Prevention therapy.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@basilfawlty89 I see
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
could be OCD?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Just do what cats do... lick your paws. Hopefully, you won't have to deal with hairballs.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Only 5-10 times? Ever since corona started I've been sanitising my hands every time i touch something public or a door handle. I didn't stop doing it because it actually keeps me from falling ill. You need hand cream my dude!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Try washing with plain soap and water. That'll get the alcohol right off.
Nanori · F
you know what we do to these kind of people? soak their hands in goat piss 🙂

SW-User
@Nanori you too?
candycane · 36-40, F
Must have alcohol in it
Put on some lotion or dawns dish soap
