We can only do our best to create the environment we hope to have.
Every user interaction site will have its share of negative people. We can’t totally get rid of them.
But if there are more POSITIVE people who pay no attention to the negative ones who are causing others to dislike the environment here, the negative ones will hopefully become less active. They want the attention to their negativity. If they are not getting that attention here, they will move somewhere else.
@SubstantialKick True, there are types of posts that don’t get attention. But that tells you that the current user base don’t care about those topics.
The question is: do we post to get visibility? Or do we post because it’s our way of expression?
Our level of dissatisfaction will depend on our expectations from the site. I had posted music and yeah, it didn’t get any reaction. But that was ok for me because my intent in posting it was for myself… an expression of what I was feeling at that moment.
@CookieCrumbs I remember when we used to have a story section on here. I would post stories with the expectation that I would get feedback. Eventually though, I just used the section for my thoughts after I had realized that no one really responded to "stories" on here.
@Ambroseguy80 well no...you cant imagine that because you are not one of them. Your experience here is not the same as mine, or theirs. You get response to your posts. When someone like ne shares our experience the popular folk as yourself seem to imyply 'thats not how it is' but IT IS for many of us! Then, im told im negative! And we all know thats a no no on SW! Yet....other, more popular members can share a post almost identical and dozens of peeps reply and offer support!
I’m seeing a few posts like this lately and all I can say is - traffic seems to be down a little bit, but there still seems to be enough of a nucleus user base here to keep SW going for a while. Maybe traffic will increase again, maybe not. But I ask each and every one of you
What do you do at SW to keep it going?
Are there more things we could do to keep the site interesting? It’s up to each and every one of us to make SW what we want it to be.
@RubySoo I agree. It's frustrating. I set my feed to friends, but when I venture outside that, it's hard to find any content I'm actually interested in reading or interacting. Combing groups and questions was a terrible idea. It's all just a jumbled mess, now.
I think it will be gone sooner rather than later. Its bery hard even to see pals posts now....you only really see the current posts, and then they are as good as gone. Even the selfie posts only really get seen for a couple of hours from the original post..... I dont like it, makes it hard to interact.
I've been a member here for a couple of weeks now. I've met some very nice people so far. I haven't had to block anyone yet,(Just for the heck of it, I did try to block myself, which was a no go🤪). I'm trying to avoid political or religious conversation, because those always seem to draw out the worst in people(myself included). But other than that, it seems like the people I've encountered have been friendly, helpful, and tolerant of my newbie questions.
It’s been a year though, man. A couple of them actually and that struggle over the past couple of years can transmit to everything we touch right now. People are trying to find their light and this place isn’t that for some right now, especially when we’re the ones setting the tone for it. But things have a way of bouncing back, just like people do. I seriously doubt the site is going anywhere and if it does, it’ll be because those in charge of it felt it was best to shut it down for reasons that honestly won’t matter once the music ceases to be. We’re merely the orchestra while others are the conductors. Just enjoy the music as it plays, even the melancholy melodies that beauty can still be found in.
I’ve just been accused by SW of harassing, insulting, annoying other members. Never did it. This is what happens when you get involved with religion vs science comments. Get too sensible and you get silenced. So now I’m on the watch list for a week.
@SweetMae dont be sorry hunni. Im happy for you it still works gor you here. I keep hoping eventually i will feel part of things again....but how long do i give it? Ive probably stayed longer than i should already.
I've just learned not to interact with twisted mind fucks... The blocking and unblocking kind... They are the most negative ones around! Thankfully they didn't run me off the site!
I actually don't know. I think the mods' reaction to the fall of Yahoo Answers should be a source of hope; they've clearly become watchful opportunists who'll go out of their way to make this place work. This place has felt like it was gonna die for a long time but it just hasn't lol.
SW-User
If it is, it's really slow. There's still great people here..
@SW-User Many of them have left, sadly. I was browsing through the comments on a post of mine from just a week ago, and I noticed that there where quite a few members that had suddenly left...just like that.
@silkydrawers So wish we lived nearby, to share our feminine interests and experiences! Having a real gurlfriend to support and encourage each other would be heaven-sent!
@SW-User Once upon a time Yahoo was awesome. With Yahoo messenger you could chat, go to chat rooms, send pics, hell you could even file share! Yahoo also had Yahoo Answers, Yahoo Groups…and then over time “upgrades” occurred but they were actually downgrades. File sharing vanished. Then the chat rooms. Then Messenger itself was no more. Eventually Yahoo groups was axed followed up by Yahoo answers. I wonder when they are going to cancel Yahoo mail?
@RubySoo Yes, and for me anyway, only a few (like you!) seem interesting or attractive enough to prompt a friendly response. Of course I sometimes can’t resist responding to something I diasagree with, but that’s usually pointless.
You can blame perceptions for the creation of this question. I say that because some will proclaim yes it is as others proclaim no it is not. Any site is either blossoming or decaying depending on how it's viewed. The bigger question is what do you want or expect from this or any social site?
@onrealityofdreams Well the main reason for me being here is to connect with people. I understand though that will be times when it's basically a ghost town.
We have those times where multiple users all left at once, and others are taking a break so the site is just really inactive by default. Now if there is no increase in the activity by a certain point, and it is just constantly dead, then that might be a sign that the site is dying. It needs a certain amount of activity or else there is no point in keeping it running.
