The only thing we ask is is do your part. If your contribution to society is living from gov't benefit and constant complaining about why your sense of entitlement isn't being fulfilled then perhaps your value to society isn't

@spjennifer Oui... if you are a ervioce member, respect - i am retired as well - but if you truly believed this you would stand for any person who cant defend themselves if yu took the same oeth i did. Id much rather have the neo nazis out parading in public than scurrying around in their ratholes where they can be seen
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@HeteroDox Yes, 35+ years of service and I would stand up for the rights of anyone unable to defend themselves and have for my entire life and would have willingly given my life if it meant saving the life of another. Respect to you as well Sister. Well, I might disagree with your method but agree that the scumbags should be exposed and held up to the light, a light hot enough to burn them 😝
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@spjennifer Tres bien, on that we agree.

It depends. Well-intentioned conservatives are trying to preserve integral values and liberties that are under threat from those who seek to dismantle them. Not well-intentioned conservatives are trying to keep things the way they are rather than allow things to progress.

The principle behind conservatism is the belief that the past can be a reliable pattern to suggest the future. If you understand the past you may be able to prevent the same mistake being committed again and again and again. Those who fail to learn from the past are bound to repeat it. Progressives on the other hand believe that the world begins each day when they get up and everything is always working to become better. Sadly progressives always end up in tyranny and poverty and expect the conservatives to bail them out.

Their wealth and reputation.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Good question. Although I'm not sure what a "conservative" means anymore. It seems most people who claim they are conservative are actually nationalists. Quite different traditional conservative thinking: William Buckley, George Will, Bill Kristol etc

Free will
Free will, national identity, morality and way of life.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Fukfacewillie why do you feel so?
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@Unlearn your definition of free will is an excuse to be immoral and allow people to be killed or die, and you elected one of the most immoral men In history.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Fukfacewillie are you just going to criticise others or do you have any opinion of your own?
ClanNaFiacaillApWythe · 51-55, M
It is more of a general idea that they like to maintain the status quo and even old traditions and social arrangements rather than to be progressive. However there have been times when folks considered conservative would privatize that which was in public or communal domains as in the movement to enclose the commons which took place in much of Europe between 1200 and 1600.
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@ClanNaFiacaillApWythe Where I take issue with many so-called Conservatives is their innate belief that whatever they accumulate belongs solely to them and that the less fortunate don't deserve any help because they "didn't earn it". As members of any "community" isn't it morally right to help the less fortunate, and I don't mean the lazy ones, I mean the mentally and physically disabled and the mistreated. Even most animal flocks or packs care for their wounded or elderly until they die...
ClanNaFiacaillApWythe · 51-55, M
@spjennifer Well there is also the element of being individualistic versus being collectivist or communal. Some conservatives do have a sense of family even of extended family.
spjennifer · 61-69, T
Their wealth!
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@HeteroDox Oh, i won't dispute his election as he did apparently win that but his personality is questionable and the populace should have seen that before they elected him. I DO judge him as a person by how he treats women and individuals who he considers beneath him! I am one of those who believe there should be ethics in business and not only the accumulation of wealth at any cost as the sole driving force, no matter who gets harmed in the process. I have no issues looking in the mirror as any wealth I've accumulated has not been at the expense or the well being of others so no, I don't feel the need to give it all away, I earned it.
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@spjennifer tres bien, then not so.liberal after all
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@HeteroDox tbh, in the past couple of decades there hasn't been that much difference in the philosophies of both parties in Canada, they go back and forth and copy each other and then condemn each other for making the same stupid mistakes they both make when in power. Our Southern cousins however have gone to almost extremism in trying to differentiate themselves from each other to the point where neither of them represent the majority of their populations on either side and I wonder at what point there could be another civil war there...

@AthrillatheHunt So what's the answer, no Government, anarchy?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
A hybrid of the two, which is what we had until recently.
Both parties have gone off the rails.
Reps cater to the rich
Dems cater to non citizens@spjennifer

@AthrillatheHunt Product of poor leadership and extremist polarization from both parties, even George W. Dumbdumb was better than the current situation!
