The principle behind conservatism is the belief that the past can be a reliable pattern to suggest the future. If you understand the past you may be able to prevent the same mistake being committed again and again and again. Those who fail to learn from the past are bound to repeat it. Progressives on the other hand believe that the world begins each day when they get up and everything is always working to become better. Sadly progressives always end up in tyranny and poverty and expect the conservatives to bail them out.
