I trained and carried a M-16a1 for 6 years. I trust/trusted it. My preference is partly due to my familiarity with that platform. I own two AR-15 clones. They demonstrate much better accuracy than any AK I have ever seen.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I prefer the Springfield M1A or it's cousin the Ruger Mini 30. I have both and after getting them I sold my AR15, AK-47 and SKS. Pistols Sig P-226, P-220 are my go to pistols but my 1911 is a close second choice.

My son has an AR 15. I have shot it a few times and it's lighter than I thought it would be.
JackHoff · 46-50, M
@FreeSpirit1 Light weight air cooled semi automatic, hip or shoulder fired weapon.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Firing an M-16 always gave me the willies because my ear was up against the stock and I could hear the spring being pushed back into it. I had dire fantasies of the spring failing and the whole structure break out the rear of the rifle, taking my shoulder with it.
AKs bother me because their tolerances are so high. You pick one up and shake it and it sounds like a drum kit, which you'd expect from a weapon designed to be turned out in whatever machine shop was handy. Remarkably reliable, though, from what I heard.

@DunningKruger I have heard that the high tolerances are actually what allows AKs to be able to fire in the worst of conditions. It’s very similar to the way Subaru and Volkswagen used to make their engines. They may leak oil but they last for decades longer than comparable competitors. The engines from older Jaguar’s a many other brands are the polar opposite. The tighter the tolerances the less reliable they become. The engines of the Daimler-Benz were overbuilt and they were also designed with tighter tolerances where it would matter and looser tolerances where it would be beneficial.
Plus the AK-47 was pressed vs AR-15/M-16 is machined. But things have changed and there’s actually an American Kalashnikov company for the US market because of the regulations on Russian made AKs and there are AK clones from countries that aren’t under embargo by the USA and from what I’ve been told they are pretty terrible.

@RunTheJulz if it's Romanian, Chinese, Serbian, Bulgarian or an older East German, it's likely a quality Kalashnikov rifle.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
AR, more parts/accessories availability, lighter weight, and more accurate. pretty much any run of the mill AR shoots sub moa these days, whereas even the best forged receiver AK is 1-2 moa at best
also have HK91 (semi/civilian version of G3), but parts are expensive, and it's comparatively heavy (definitely don't wanna carry it far /w optics on it); it is accurate though

Also, HK's are expensive as hell, especially these days; I got mine for deal through a security company years ago, but an average starting price these days is about $3000
PTR makes good G3 clones (they even use original HK tooling), and they've expanded their inventory/sales in recent years, so that would be the way to go if you really want one. They also have the benefit of being about half the price of an HK and have modern amenities like weaver rails (HK's are all pre ban rifles, thank Clinton for that...) & most parts are interchangeable between HK & PTR

I have nothing to contribute to this particular conversation, but it’s good to see you here. 😄
TexChik · F
AR. GAL, G3, M1A are all too heavy for me and the AK is less accurate than my ARs
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@TexChik depends on the ak and the ar
TexChik · F
@Notanymore My ARs are tack drivers at 100 , the AK has a 3.5 " group with good ammo
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@TexChik I've never had an ak do that poorly.
3Dogmatic · 46-50, M
I like them both. They have strengths and weaknesses. An underfolder AK makes one hell of a truck gun though…😎
Beretta 92FS Inox stainless steel conversion kit with Italian markings for KSC M9. Less than 15 of these were made.

@WonderGirl I don't own one, but my friend has one, and I held it. It's pretty heavy and hard to pull back on. 2.125 pounds.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
AR-15 but mostly for it's usefulness in the militia. home or personal defense 12ga./9mm.

@basilfawlty89 it'll fail and be another scar
BlueVeins · 22-25
The only rifles I've ever shot were a bolt-action .30-06 and a .22, but I thing it'd be cool to have a Galil.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@BlueVeins it's getting tougher to find an actual galil these days.

@Notanymore after you've had/carried tried and true 1911, it becomes the standard for comparison, and few hold up
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Notanymore as a caliber, I like the FN 5.7 (the p90 is the only bullpup I didn't immediately hate when I first shot one), but the pistol is garbage, way too gawky with double stack magazine & horribly balanced
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@wildbill83 I have 8-10 1911s depending on if you count a systema colt or a warthog
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
AR15 has way more available extras. @Crazychick
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@AthrillatheHunt so do Barbie dolls

Ha, true.@Notanymore
Crazychick · 36-40, F
Do I prefer an what at 15? You've missed a word out.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Crazychick why would you answer a question about them?
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@Notanymore I didn't know it was about rifles, did I? I didn't have the foggiest idea what it was about.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Crazychick that's fair
curiosi · 61-69, F
I'm not educated enough on it, I'll hang around here to learn more first.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@curiosi don't learn here..... could possibly find some misinformation
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Notanymore True, but it does give me questions that I can then do research on. A starting point.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@curiosi very good point
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Love the AR. Very nice and accurate for targets. Not really familiar with the 47.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Chevy454 I've always had a lot more fun shooting the ak for some reason
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
What's wrong with a MAC-10?
RunTheJulz · 46-50, F
@Notanymore That’s a very broad question… not sure how to answer that one??
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@RunTheJulz fair enough. I enjoy sharing information both subjective and objective thoughts on things the other may never consider. Sorry for being vague.
RunTheJulz · 46-50, F
@Notanymore no problem at all. I just need a little more direction on what subjects you’re interested in hearing about.
SirAhmed · 31-35, M
AR 15 although Egypt makes a great AK47 Maadi but I would still go for AR 15
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SirAhmed I've always preferred Soviet block aks....
