What do you think about chihuahuas?

MaryJanine · 61-69, F
Chihuahuas are not made for everyone. But I once had a "poo-chi" (chihuahua/toy poodle combo) and she was the sweetest little dog on the face of the earth.

Regular chihuahuas CAN be snappish -it's the nature of the breed. But that also makes them excellent watchdogs. I saw a tape on the news where two men were caught on security camera going to rob a store. First, you saw the men, helping themselves to cash and goods. Then, there was a shrill barking and one of the men ran out of the store, an enraged Chihuahua at his heels. He chased the man out of the store, then came back and did the same to the other one!

Chihuahuas are protective of their possessions and their owners. If you are going into a home where the dog is there and he doesn't know you, have the owner/handler properly introduce you. The dog will accept your presence if this is done. My sister's best friend from school's father had a full Chihuahua, and he was tempermental - but he was never properly conditioned to accept visitors at home.
They’re great Mexican alarm systems. Top flight security alongside a bigger dog.

I thought they were annoying until I got my own. It wasn’t intentional, it was just a puppy that seems to have stopped growing. 😹
She’s extremely interactive and a curious little thing, I’m followed everywhere I go.

I’ve grown to love the tiny furball so much. She could easily win any heart over—the sweetest and the fiestiest little thing.

My rotty and her make a really great team.

@SW-User Thank you...Like I said, he is full of personality and he acts like your average dog (not the typical chihuahua)...he has a big heart and gives alot of love. He's my "little buddy" like I said, but to be honest he's a "mama's boy"😄. He'll be 12 years old in October, but he is still spry as a pup.

I like dead ones.

@DrWatson My Mother-in-law was talking to one of her friends on the phone about how a owl or hawk or something tore up her pet chihuahua.... I couldn't stop laughing thinking of chihuahua body parts spread all over the yard!!!! lol My Mother-in-law gave me a stern stare... but I can't help it... a dead chihuahua that got bird murdered is funny! 🤭

They're OK as far as loud, annoying rats go.

I never used to have a high opinion of them, that was before I met the one we have.

I think about them very seldom. I would not have one as a pet.
Mean, little yapping dogs with an attitude.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
They are very small. And they can be very yappy. And people put them in clothes...I'm not sure how I feel about that.
CharlieZ · 70-79, M
That with their moods, if they were of the size of a Retriever, they would rule the world.

Cute adorable and I love their eyes but I would never have such a small dog
seen a few good ones, but, seen a lot of asshole chihuahuas.

You treat them well, and they know they are loved. (I think they are like little babies, and my "poo-chi" liked to dress up and be held, too). I love Chihuahuas as a breed, but I have read just recently about a couple of different former gas station owners who were bitten when they put their hands in the back seat to pet the Chihuahua there. Cute as they may look, you never, EVER put your hand or leg near ANY strange dog unless the owner first introduces you. Neither of these dogs apparently were properly introduced that they were "okay strange people".
