Try specifying that you want to have a reasonable conversation at the start. Try and not make claims that also insult the readers. Juat let them know you want to learn more.

the problem you run into in todays "PC" society, is that many will completely reject traditional, practical ideology based on facts and logic; in favor of societal trends or "fads" based on fiction.

@wildbill83 Very true
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@Quizzical It's like suddenly it's become deemed "offensive" to make an argument based on statistics, evidence, and irrefutable fact...
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@wildbill83 Oh, completely!

They are merely information, but as I mentioned, people attach their ideology to arguments, so if the facts don't fit then they TOO become offensive. The far left is terrible for reacting that way, the SJWs and virtue signallers cannot stand facts, because they prove them wrong...
Quizzical · 46-50, M
I think it's because people argue about how they FEEL about things rather than what they THINK.

So an attack on their position in their minds becomes an attack on them.
@Quizzical Completely agreed.
@Quizzical What you said.

Yeah, I've done it before. It's just not that common.

It's possible with the more mature minded folks, but it's hard to find people here who don't resort to name calling during a disagreement and that's really sad. A good debate is beneficial for learning in my opinion.
@SW-User when someone resorts to personal attacks they are signaling that they either can not discuss with any sort intelligence or they can not back their opinion with facts

@jetpack I absolutely agree, it's a tactic people use to divert attention away from the fact they can't back up their points.
Only a handful of users will be able to discuss a difference in opinion here. Most just lash out then block you in a last ditch effort to prop up their narrow view and cognitive dissonance.
People generally have more in common than that which divides them but deep seated personal biases burn those bridges as soon as they are built.

It is possible, but it is difficult to find someone who can carry on a civil conversation.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Likely not. This place started sliding off the cliff a year ago. Aside from that, debating is a wasted energy.
I disagree. You're a poop!
