Do you give money to homeless people when asked?

I always say sorry I only have plastic and walk away. That's not true because I do carry some cash but they don't know that.
Yes, I do, and I’ll tell you why.

What if that was me? What if everyone judged and said I’ll only go out and blow it or go get booze? That is not the point. Jesus said, to have mercy on, and help the poor, the widow’s, and the needy. Even have mercy and visit those in jails. Why? Because they all need love, like anyone else. Most of all, the gospel, so a bible would be good to give. Jesus transforms, what man cannot.

Jesus commands us to love one another. That was not a suggestion. He never once said to love only the lovely, or to love someone conditionally. He never once said, Love this person IF they act or look a certain way. He just said love...with a period at the end of His sentence. Not a question mark.

When I give money without conditions, it shows I truly have love in my heart for that person, or I never would have given in the first place. They just don’t see the amount you give them, it is the motive that comes forth and is felt, first. This is showing the love of God within us. Perhaps they won’t buy food with it. Perhaps they might need a pair of shoestrings or underwear, much more. Leave that up to them. And if they go out and blow it on booze, it gave them one more moment of happiness, without our judging it. More importantly, perhaps that person felt loved, if even for a moment. Sometimes I take that person for a meal, then give them money to spend for their needs later. Or I’ll give them clothes or shoes.

What if that was you? .... Is what we need to ask ourselves. We never know what made that person homeless. Perhaps they are mentally challenged, poor souls. Whatever the case, we need to practice what we preach. If we care, it will show. Jesus said:

[c=#BF0000]Truly I tell you...whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.[/c] Matthew 25:45
@LadyGrace Any phone that can turn on and dial does not need a plan to dial 911. It is free and mandatory on all US cell phones.
@DarkHeaven Oh that’s right!! Thank you for pointing that out. You should write a post on that.
@LadyGrace 🖤

aren't you the one several of us attacked a few days ago for being a snob and talking about people who live in mobile homes like they were ALL trash? Yuh, you are. You might want to be aware of Karma ...you could find yourself homeless one day...in a NY second...and MAN would you live in a mobile home then if you had the chance!!

@Addictedtoglamour Not only me...you offended several people

@Fernie well all of us offend someone in some way shape or form. Nobody is perfect.
@Fernie Light on ignorance Fern.

@SW-User You are kind 🖤
I never give money unless it’s directly to a food bank or soup kitchen but I do give my time and things. I also give to women’s shelters. Everyone here, if you have any old cellphones that you are not using, please donate them to a woman’s shelter. Any phone that will turn on and dial can dial 911 even without a cell plan. Your old cellphone could honestly save a woman in domesticate abuse situations life. 🖤
Thank you in advance for your gift.
@SW-User It may save their life and their children. 🖤

well, this thread got heated right off the bat.

i don't give money to beggars on the roadside (the only place i see them), because: 1) i actually never carry any cash. cash is dirty. 2) it's illegal to give them money where i live. this law was passed two years ago. it's not illegal to beg, but it is illegal to give them money or food. they're trying to direct all needs to proper facilities. 3) there are several facilities (as i mentioned) in my community that feed and shelter the homeless. and i do donate goods and money twice a year.
@pentacorn Even if having your old cell in her pocket gave her the security to know she wouldn’t die that night. That’s enough. 🖤
pentacorn · F
@DarkHeaven indeed.
and i like the idea of extending the life of a purchase. i hate tossing things in landfills. i'd love to say that i'm completely altruistic, but i'm not gonna lie. the whole idea of donating cellphones to women and children in danger is a great one for so many reasons.
@pentacorn Thank you for your gifts, now & in the future. 🖤

NO as how do I know they are not professional beggars
@Addictedtoglamour Blankets, food, & old phones at neutral places like food banks & shelters. Anything can help. Children’s coats, hats, & gloves. You’d be shocked how many children are in the shelter without proper warm clothing.
Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@DarkHeaven not going to lie I'm hard on electronics and most of my old phones are pretty beat up. Idk if they would take a busted old blackberry with the little scrolling ball that always falls out
@Addictedtoglamour They aren’t needing Internet. They are needing to call 911 because an estranged lover is trying to beat or kill them. Donate the phones and they will get rid of what is not usable. Please and Thank you.🖤

No, but I gave a meal voucher once. I never give them money because they often buy alcohol instead of food and I think it could be risky to pull out the wallet.
@LadyGrace I’m a #fighter
@LadyGrace But I’m also kind. 🖤
@DarkHeaven I know that. ❤

I say the same, because I honestly can’t afford it. But I volunteer at a shelter, and I let people know where it is. They can get food and there are clean donated clothes, as well as showers and beds.
@bijouxbroussard If you have old cellphones not being used please donate them to a woman’s shelter.
@DarkHeaven I know and have, but thank you.
@bijouxbroussard You are my hero again than. Love you girl. 🖤
Sometimes if I have the cash available and it’s not inconvenient for me. When they’re standing near a stop light attempting to get money I usually don’t because I don’t like to hold up traffic Incase the light changes that’s when I think of it being inconvenient.
@Stark Careful Katniss. There are predators among the homeless too.
@DarkHeaven that’s true. I don’t see many here but when I do I always try and keep a safe distance and I honestly never approach them unless I’m in my car 😂
@Stark If you have old cellphones not being used please donate them to a woman’s shelter.
I don't need to be asked.

If I can help someone in need, I do it.
