Do you give money to homeless people when asked?

I always say sorry I only have plastic and walk away. That's not true because I do carry some cash but they don't know that.

Yes, I do, and I’ll tell you why.

What if that was me? What if everyone judged and said I’ll only go out and blow it or go get booze? That is not the point. Jesus said, to have mercy on, and help the poor, the widow’s, and the needy. Even have mercy and visit those in jails. Why? Because they all need love, like anyone else. Most of all, the gospel, so a bible would be good to give. Jesus transforms, what man cannot.

Jesus commands us to love one another. That was not a suggestion. He never once said to love only the lovely, or to love someone conditionally. He never once said, Love this person IF they act or look a certain way. He just said love...with a period at the end of His sentence. Not a question mark.

When I give money without conditions, it shows I truly have love in my heart for that person, or I never would have given in the first place. They just don’t see the amount you give them, it is the motive that comes forth and is felt, first. This is showing the love of God within us. Perhaps they won’t buy food with it. Perhaps they might need a pair of shoestrings or underwear, much more. Leave that up to them. And if they go out and blow it on booze, it gave them one more moment of happiness, without our judging it. More importantly, perhaps that person felt loved, if even for a moment. Sometimes I take that person for a meal, then give them money to spend for their needs later. Or I’ll give them clothes or shoes.

What if that was you? .... Is what we need to ask ourselves. We never know what made that person homeless. Perhaps they are mentally challenged, poor souls. Whatever the case, we need to practice what we preach. If we care, it will show. Jesus said:

@LadyGrace If you have old cellphones not being used please donate them to a woman’s shelter.
@DarkHeaven That is the best idea I’ve heard yet. Thank you for that, so much. What a great idea!! 👍
@LadyGrace An old garbage phone could save their life Lady in a terrible domestic abuse situation.
@DarkHeaven Absolutely! That is so important. A way to call for help. It would also be great to give them their first card with minutes on it, in case they cannot afford it. I’ve been abused and homeless before, with children. I wish I could have had one.
@LadyGrace Any phone that can turn on and dial does not need a plan to dial 911. It is free and mandatory on all US cell phones.
@DarkHeaven Oh that’s right!! Thank you for pointing that out. You should write a post on that.
