Eldrich Horror.

It's expensive to buy, time consuming and frustrating until you learn the rules. It's awesome though.

It's based in a lovecraftian world and each player is an early 20th century adventurer, working together to try and stop a the awakening of a cosmic monster and an apocalypse. You travel around the world, performing various tasks depending on the scenario. It might be gathering artefacts or destroying cultists.

By luck of cards or dice roll, you can be thrown into crisis at any minute. You can even be bursed or haunted.

It's well put together and addictive.

The wife and I broke out a copy of Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion a while back. I really enjoyed it once we got to the point of having figured out the rules. I've been wanting to get back to Descent at some point; it's a similar game. Unfortunately, I think all of these D&D-ish, dungeon-crawling board games work better with more than two people playing.

It's almost impossible to find the original game, but a replacement set of thd Empire Builder North America Train Board Game is on my bucket list of ebay purchases. Some friends have the old version and I love playing it.
