I'm giving up on potatoes they're evil

One of the techniques of dealing with my acid reflux/plegm issue is making a list of the foods that trigger this chaos and I discovered that it happens every single time I eat fries or just chips even that day I only had one fry! It was still a problem! It could be the oil also but I also eat scrambled eggs which is also made with oil and nothing happens.

So that's it I'm not eating potatoes again in any shape or form.

I wonder if it’s the fact that’s the type of potatoes you’re eating is fried

I was having reflux issues too and my doctor told me I had to stop eating fried food. I even gave up coffee for the most part I might have one cup a day. When I changed my diet my gerd symptoms subsided until they disappeared completely
@DeluxedEdition That makes sense. I haven't tried to see what happened after eating mashed potatoes but I don't exactly like it plus my family put olive oil on it when they make it so I'd rather just avoid it. And I don't like coffee either so that's a plus.
I'm glad it worked for you and you got over that

@Classified Haha! 😂 Omg. I love French fries but try to stay semi disciplined.

@Magenta Discipline has been an issue 😶

@Classified I understand! Heheh.

It is the fat content threshold
More fat requires more acid to break down
Olive oil is lower in fat
There are many potatoes recipes to explore.
Try مبطن في مرغرين نباتية
It is my favorite way and doesn't strain my digestive system.
@Miram That makes sense.
Last time I ate cheese with tomatoes and olive oil it also was a trigger.

It's most likely the deep frying of potatoes than potatoes itself.
Boiled potatoes are often recommended for people with acid reflux.
@SW-User Makes sense. But I don't like boiled or mashed potatoes so I don't mind not having them. Maybe I could try them sometime though.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I stopped eating potatoes tbh, and I've not missed them. What I meant to say though was that it's the deep frying that is a problem.

Aw, potatoes are sooo delish, but I understand.

Not sure what type of oil you use, but I would suggest to try using coconut oil. It doesn't put any strain on the pancreas and it's natural. Olive oil is good too.

Use low fat oil with little margarine

And non stick pan.

It is good. I add other spices but it is not necessary
@Miram Not gonna lie that looks amazing I'm going to try it 😊😋
Miram · 31-35, F
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether high heat because as per rule in cooking, the longer the food is cooked in low heat , the more it absorbs oil.

You don't have to use as much oil as she is using. I use less and they get cooked and cripsy. Just make sure the pan is nonstick.

{@piecingbabyfacetogether]😄 why do you not eat jacket potatoes done in the oven no fat
Hey, we're not evil! We're just not meant to be eaten.

Found I have gluten intolerance and if im not naughty I can eat most other foods without the acid reflux but still eat light before bed, I was getting terrible reflux about 3 times a week while eating gluten not had it for months now .

The potatoes on SW will be happy.
@basilfawlty89 Even after calling them evil? We'll see 🤔

Potatoes are good. It's your reaction to them that's bad.🙂

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether

Foods commonly known to be acid reflux triggers cause the esophageal sphincter to relax and delay the digestive process, letting food sit in the stomach longer, says Gupta. The worst culprits? Foods that are high in fat, salt or spice such as:

Fried food
Fast food
Pizza
Potato chips and other processed snacks
Chili powder and pepper (white, black, cayenne)
Fatty meats such as bacon and sausage
Cheese
Other foods that can cause the same problem include:

Tomato-based sauces
Citrus fruits
Chocolate
Peppermint
Carbonated beverages

@iamonfire696
Adding to the list:
All types of soda and sweetened drinks
Coffee
Honey
Too sugary foods like baklava
Nuts for some people
Tea
__the list will differ of course , not all will be an issue for everyone.

The reason pizza is problem besides its tomatoes sauce, is because it is mixed carbs. The wheat dough generally, with sauce and cheese and other toppings like pepperoni and meat make it more difficult to digest for the stomach and empty.

The stomach does best when you don't mix up foods . Same applies to hamburgers . They will sooner or later contribute to an existing issue of acid reflux

_ Drinking enough water is very important in between meals not with them

_ it is best to eat your last meal two hours before laying down.

@Miram Thanks for adding that and not to lay down after eating. That’s really important too.
