@Poppies My misheard Fogarty lyric was from Down on the Corner: I always heard "howdy in the street" rather than "out in the street". I wasn't alone; it was my son's favorite song at the time and he sang it "howdy" as well. Never had the gumption to tell John, or either of his brothers, that. But then I didn't come to realize my error until after we lost contact.

Alice in Chains, Would. The part when they say "into the flood again," I thought they were saying Hail to the promised land
Metallica, Fuel. The part where they say, "give me fuel. Give me fire. Give me that which I desire," that last part, I thought they were saying. ...wait. I'd better do some pre explaining. I thought the song was about getting drunk or stoned and I've read that front man James Hetfield was a little behind the times when it came to being politically correct, so i thought he would still use the term I thought I heard when I would hear the song. I thought he was saying, give me fuel, give me fire, give me double chinese eyes, which is a term we used in high school. To be chinese eyed ment you were very stoned.

We were all getting lit in the barracks, just returned from a long field exercise and were singing Paul Revere from the Beastie Boys. When we got to the part where they say "he yelled, stick'em up, and let two fly," we all pointed at a guy who had just joined in, as if to say that "stick'em up" part was all his..
Without missing a beat, he stepped up and sounded off with "PEEK-A-BOO" (instead of stick'em up). 😅🤣😂 that was the end of the song for us. Nobody could stop laughing after that.
It was one of those moments when all you had to say about it was "peek-a-boo" and the laughter would pick up again.

I've always gotten to the bottom of these misheard lyrics, and I've been blessed with not mishearing them myself, but I do know that people who misheard "Blinded By The Light" as performed by Manfred Mann are in good company. Even Bruce Springsteen, who wrote the original song, jokes that Manfred rewrote the line about the deuce to be about a feminine hygiene product.

I'm still not sure if it's "they were crying when their sons left" or "songs left" in Soldier side by SOAD. I like both versions but "songs" a bit more.
