Is it possible to find a genuine connection here?

The great thing about SW is that there are cool people here from all over the world. The bad thing about SW is that these people are all over the world.

I suppose there is. The question is at what level they'll exist, and if they will last. And, some of them will just come up short of what they appeared to be.

Depends on what you consider a genuine connection. I have been friends with many here quite some time and interact with some frequently. I feel a genuine O/L connection and consider them my O/L friends. I likely will never meet any of them, and I have had a few simply stop showing up. Nonetheless I appreciate them.

It takes time but you can make friends here. There are genuine people here too. When you see their posts regularly and/ or interact them directly, then you can see who is real and who is here for just time pass.

I think it is possible. yes there are fakes here, but I have met several genuine people of both genders i talk to often.

It’s pretty hard because we’re wired to present an embellished version of ourselves online. When we make connections based on those made up identities and personalities, disappointment is guaranteed. Men feel the need to finesse their way into connections because, let’s be real, there’s a secret wish by female social media users to fall on “Prince Charming” that change their life or at offer a life changing opportunity. Men have learned fake it just to stay in touch. If a normal friendship was not based on “hope it could be more”, people would be more genuine. But no. Especially for people under 55, they choose friends based on hotness and opportunities.

Years ago I dated someone from EP who then brought me here when EP closed. She was amazing and incredibly genuine but our timing was off. We were also both married at the time though both of us are divorced now.

I have one other friend I stay in touch with on the site, but she and I are simply platonic friends. I do consider her to be a genuine friend and have for many years.

Yes, it's possible. It can take a long time to find that person, but it's definitely possible. I was fortunate enough to make wonderful friends both on EP and here on SW and they are the reason I'm still here :)

I'd think you can find one here as much as you can find one anywhere. But it would be as rare here as in the "real" world -- maybe rarer.

Unless you meet them in real life and confirm it, you can never be sure if it's real.
