I’m very saddened about this. I sent him a message today, even though I know he will never read it.

Portlander and I were friends. We talked about books and cooking and swapped recipes. He said he liked the nursing home he has been in for the last few months and they were taking good care of him.

When he didn’t reply to my last message I sent about two weeks ago, I told @beermeplease; we’re both his friends, and we both knew how ill he was. We’d been quietly watching, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. And today we found his obituary.

It’s reminded me how important it is to care for one another—to be kind, to stay connected, even when there are differences.

If you have someone in your life who’s unwell or struggling, please reach out. A simple “I’m thinking of you” can mean more than you know. 💙

This one makes me feel small and grateful all at once. I remember long conversations that felt endless. We're all around the same age, and losing another friend from our group stings deeply.

May your soul rest in peace. May the memories of your stories you shared and the kindness comfort those who loved you. Give strength to the grieving, heal the broken hearted, and grant us peace in the days ahead.
