Same with me. When my girlfriend start talking politics, I shut down. I don’t say a word. They have no idea I have no intention to vote liberal. One of them I think would understand but the other one is so vocal about politics and can get quite aggressive about it so I don’t want to be in the middle of that

Shame. I have true friends whose politics is very different to mine, but we stay clear of conversations that might cause a rift. I challenge only if someone strays into racist or similar broad brush assumptions about 'them'. Usually that just brings an 'OK' and refining the comment without the generalisation. I can expect the same if I make a daft comment.

As I liberal I can say those of us who are true to the concept we respect everyone’s opinion.

Are they real friends then if you can't be yourself around them?
