On the road today driving from my office in the metro Washington DC area down to NAS Oceana in Virginia.
I stopped for lunch just off the highway and stopped for the first time in ages at a McDonald's. Back in high school and, admittedly, even through much of university I ate often at McDonald's. Way too often. But it was easy and cheap and quick... and back then that's all I looked for on a meal.
I've since gotten a bit more picky in my choices and even in the last few months been trying to actually make healthy choices. But as I said, this was a quick on the road stop.
I ordered the Quarter Pounder with bacon and cheese, a medium fries, and my Coke Zero. I'm not a big beef eater but I do like an occasional good burger. This was not that. This was a very dried out chewy slab of mystery meat. 🤦♀️ The fries, by weight, likely contained more salt and grease than potatoes. And my beloved Coke Zero was way more water and way less syrup that it was supposed to be.
I dumped it all after a few bites and sips. I'll arrive in Dam Neck hungry and got me a good Navy meal!!! 🙄😤
@Yulianna Back when it was still the Soviet Union the man who controls the Canadian McDonald's franchises - George Cohon - secured the rights for McDonalds in all former Soviet territories... including Russia.. With the collapse of the Soviet Union McDonalds continued to operate in all former Soviet territories.. With the invasion of the sovereign State of Ukraine by Russia - McDonalds Restaurants elected to remain closed but in place to comply fully with the Western boycott of Russia.. and have as part of this suspension of operations have also elected to continue to pay employees wages for the duration of the suspension of services...obviously at massive on-going expense because they chose to do the RIGHT thing by their employees who are blameless.
@TheSirfurryanimalWalesI was wrong .... McDonalds sold out and got out of Russia.. they are operating under a different name with a new Russian owner.. not the same chain, nothing to do with McDonalds.. hit was to 2% of profits... wow...
I've never been a fan of McDonald's. It's inexpensive, yes, but you really do get what you pay for when it comes to their food. I'd rather go elsewhere and shell out a little more money if I must eat fast-food burgers.
The fact that Russians went ga-ga over McDonald's speaks volumes about what their regular food must taste like. 🤢
On a drive to Florida - we stopped and ordered plain hamburgers (nothing on them) and our dogs very much enjoyed their dinner..... bun and burger.. @Straylight
They even have a Maccas in my town despite having a population less than McDonalds usual business plan requirement. I tried a coffee once. Never eaten there in the almost ten years I have lived here. Likewise we recently got a Hungry Jacks (Burger King) never eaten there either.
It is not called Burger King in Australia because someone was already using that as a business name. A Burger joint in Adelaide.
@sarabee1995 The Adelaide guy was offered money to buy the BK name and he refused. Ended up closing down but by the HJ's was Australia wide. I think Hungry Jacks was the name of a burger or something on Burger Kings menu.
I sat to eat it in the restaurant. That's where I discovered the problem
AND THAT is the Moment moment thatnI take Photos of it All, Find the Manager, Show them their Crappy Food, Ask for Freshly Made Replacements of Everything Immediately and Accidentally knock over My Coke Zero (drowning the counter by the register). Then I Negatively review the Store on Yelp!, Google, Uber Eats, Etc.
I would rather do without than eat anything from one of those nasty places . If I must have a burger I do in and out animal style ( a lettuce wrap burger ) no bread
I am amazed they are still in business. When desperate I will eat Wendy’s or Checker’s. It’s palatable and I don’t feel like harking it back up again a 1/2 hour later
I know the feeling. I am vegetari-ish, which means that I do my best to choose non-meat options when I can, but I will eat meat when there are no good vegetarian options. One day I was craving a hamburger, so I broke down and went through the McDonald's drivethru. In my mind, it was going to be this glorious, juicy treat that I've been missing out on. Then I started eating. Eww, I thought. I gave up vegetarian for this???
But you lost me at Coke Zero. Why in the world would you subject yourself to anything Zero in the first place? I would rather give up soda entirely than drink Diets or Zeroes or anything of the sort. Which means these days I rarely drink any soda either. But yeah, you couldn't pay me to drink the fake stuff.
LOL.. We adhere to our dietary laws (Kosher) which in most places of the world precludes McDonalds... with one exception... Israel.. On our last trip there we got talked into a side trip for a few days to the Dead Sea - four hundred meters below sea level, deepest place on the earth to a hotel.. Aside from a trip to float in the Dead Sea and hanging around the pool we were bored OUT OF OUR MINDS - there was nothing to do... so we took our Daughters to McDonalds... there. After a few visits..well it wore thin pretty quickly and it actually cured us from the compulsion to want to go back again... so in a strange way it was a self correcting thing.. I should teach you how to make good breakfasts on a boat.. If you prepare ahead of time pancakes only take a few minutes time to prepare and with fresh berries they are amazing.. I used to prepare a pancake breakfast for 16 crew while racing back in the day and everyone always loved them. The Dead Sea? Ok I have seen it.. I am done. McDonalds... Ok I have eaten it... I am done.
I LOVE the ice cream from Mc-Donalds! 🤩🤩🤩 I also still have a happy meal cause a free toy is cool! 🤗🤗🤗 I give my three precious kids the extra toy usually and I prefer happy meals cause the burgers have no mayonnaise when in adult meals they do! 🙄🙄🙄 Mayonnaise is my least favourite food! 🤣🤣🤣 My precious husband knows that so he and my wild child (my 13 year old daughter) have been known to put mayonnaise on their hand and chase me! 😱😱😱 But that's off topic I LOVE happy meals! 🤗🤗🤗
I LOVE Ice Cream from McDonald's more than the food! 😝😝😝 I mostly always have a happy meal! 🤭🤭🤭 This is cause they don't put mayonnaise inside a happy meal burger and mayonnaise is my most disliked food! 🙄🙄🙄 Plus an extra free toy for the precious kids! 😁😁😁
@sarabee1995 My precious husband and my middle child Isabella love to put mayonnaise on their hand and chase me cause they know it is my most disliked food! 😱😱😱 We have lots of fun everyday! 😁😁😁
@sarabee1995 Awwww! 🤗🤗🤗 They are just playing bless them! 😘😘😘 As long as their happy I don't mind even if I'm almost sick cause mayonnaise is my most disliked food! 😭😭😭 My precious husband and Isabella my middle child often get ice cubes from the freezer and they chase each other trying to put ice cubes down their t-shirts! 🙄🙄🙄 Isabella is a proud daddy's girl but my other two precious kids who have autism are mommy's boy/girl! 🤗🤗🤗 My three precious kids are my whole world! 💖💖💖
I don’t eat much fast food, but every now and then I’ll get a cheeseburger from In-n-Out. I love it with grilled onions. I get fries, too, but they’re usually wimpy. I prefer crunchy fries. I’ll make them at home in our air fryer. So good! 😋
@sarabee1995 I grew up eating In-n-Out burgers. They’re more nostalgic for me, to be honest. The last time I had one it wasn’t as good as they used to taste.
@sarabee1995 They started in CA, and gradually moved to Vegas, and other NV towns. The place is always packed. Picture a double burger (1/4 Lb. total), double cheese all melty, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, and a sauce that's a lot like Thousand Is. Carls Jr tried to copy it "California Classic" but without the grilled onions and double cheese close don't count.
It's probably beacuse nobody really stops on the highway to eat over there, so their food is hours old. I'd ask to get everything fresh, Mcdonalds usually doesnt argue and just prepare it the way you ask them.
I haven’t eaten at McDonald's since 1972 when owner Ray Kroc donated $250,000 to Nixon's reelection campaign. Nowadays I consider fast food expensive poison.
@sarabee1995 And the food might actually be nutritious. Why are you defending them? Fast food is a big reason why so many Americans are obese and our health-care costs so muchl
@hunkalove I'm not defending them at all. I think I've said pretty clearly here that their food sucks.
But you said they were expensive. That they are not. The only reason they are able to stay in business (from what I can see) is because they are cheap.
And that's also why they are one of the leading causes of obesity among poorer people everywhere they exist (but just America).
Ahhhh haven't driven that route in many moons. Same goes for a Mickey D's meal. lol Probably haven't consumed their QP since childhood. So many more (thankfully!) fast food choices now.
@ineedadrink EVERYTHING is expensive compared to what it used to be. That's called inflation. You can't print and distribute billions of dollars in "stimulus" payments without inducing a corresponding decrease in the value of that printed money. Eco 101.
But, McD's compared to a mom & pop restaurant?? My meal today was like eight or nine dollars. Something like that. No way can I walk into a sit down local restaurant and order a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a drink and be out for under $10. It's gonna be $15-18 anywhere I've been. And that's fine. My expectations would be higher.
@RedBaron Sorry to have wasted your time. Be forewarned: this is one of my shorter stories. You might just want to block me and avoid them in the future.
