Omg that was awful...

On the road today driving from my office in the metro Washington DC area down to NAS Oceana in Virginia.

I stopped for lunch just off the highway and stopped for the first time in ages at a McDonald's. Back in high school and, admittedly, even through much of university I ate often at McDonald's. Way too often. But it was easy and cheap and quick... and back then that's all I looked for on a meal.

I've since gotten a bit more picky in my choices and even in the last few months been trying to actually make healthy choices. But as I said, this was a quick on the road stop.

I ordered the Quarter Pounder with bacon and cheese, a medium fries, and my Coke Zero. I'm not a big beef eater but I do like an occasional good burger. This was not that. This was a very dried out chewy slab of mystery meat. 🤦‍♀️ The fries, by weight, likely contained more salt and grease than potatoes. And my beloved Coke Zero was way more water and way less syrup that it was supposed to be.

I dumped it all after a few bites and sips. I'll arrive in Dam Neck hungry and got me a good Navy meal!!! 🙄😤

I haven’t eaten at McDonald's since 1972 when owner Ray Kroc donated $250,000 to Nixon's reelection campaign. Nowadays I consider fast food expensive poison.

@hunkalove
Poison? Definitely.
Expensive? Not so much. That's how they stay in business (by offering lots of calories for cheap).

@sarabee1995 The last time i looked a Big Mac and fries and a drink was over $5. That's expensive poison.

@hunkalove For that "volume" of food you'd pay at least double if not triple at any real restaurant.

@sarabee1995 And the food might actually be nutritious. Why are you defending them? Fast food is a big reason why so many Americans are obese and our health-care costs so muchl

@hunkalove I'm not defending them at all. I think I've said pretty clearly here that their food sucks.

But you said they were expensive. That they are not. The only reason they are able to stay in business (from what I can see) is because they are cheap.

And that's also why they are one of the leading causes of obesity among poorer people everywhere they exist (but just America).
