Cant say i have a worst because i have a few disasters. Back in 1988 when i started living with my first wife, before we got married, i decided to cook us tea for her to come home from work to. It consisted of jacket potato, sweetcorn and peas. She came home and i put tea out....she asked straight away where the meat was....my reply was....Are you supposed to have meat with it? Then i found that we needed a jackhammer to get through the jacket potato...i had put 2 big jacket potatoes in the microwave for 10 mins, thats all i thought it would take. Moving on some years i am now married to my 2nd wife and i tried to cook a simple tea of corned beef stew. Well i put it on and sat to watch a bit of tv while it cooked. After a while i smelled it and it wasnt nice. It had boiled dry and burned....one pan ruined. I made some more and didnt realise you had to stir it from time to time, it burned again. Another time my wife asked me to make some cowl for tea (welsh stew) which consisted of braising steak, leek, carrots, potatoes and swede. I dished it up for us for tea....on a plate (supposed to be in a bowl) and she asked me where the juice is so i told her i put it down the sink. Next thing she askes me if anything was wrong with the swede, i said nothing wrong as far as i know. There was though.....apparently you are supposed to peel it first. I didnt, i just sliced it and cut it into bits but didnt know your supposed to peel it first. My cooking skills are not good lol oh, and another one came to mind.....i bought a pizza to cook and when i got home i put it in the oven, not problem so far. I was, however, to find out that it is a good idea to take it off the polystyrene base it came on before you try to cook it.
@4meAndyou i think you are right there lol i do my best though lol i am getting better though. another one has just come to mind. I put 4 burgers under the grill to cook then realised i had no cheese so like a good man i jumped on my motorbike, cos it would be quicker than the car, and went 10 miles to asda in llanelli to get cheese and promptly forgot about the burgers. Chatted to a mate i saw there and didnt rush back.....till i was about half way home then i realised i had forgot about the burgers. Luckily when i got back my stepdaughter had called round and found a house full of smoke. A very lucky one there
I have had many. The MOST food I ruined all at once was a big pot of spaghetti sauce filled with 12 sausages and the same number of meatballs. I added the sugar early in the cooking, and the whole pot was ruined.
There seemed to follow a period where I burned almost every pot of veggies I tried to cook. I was far too distracted and couldn't even remember to set the timer...🤣🤣🤣
@4meAndyou Awww, I know the feeling. I often cook 3 or 4 different meals at once, and it's very hard to coordinate all that. Sometimes something gets neglected and burned.
I made fried eggs over easy for my brother in law and they turned out perfect with bacon, hashbrowns, toast. I was bringing it to him and tripped, spilling it all over the rug. What a mess. 😩
I made these fancy melted sugar decorations for a desert for some friends who came round for dinner. Whilst it looked nice, the decorations were like cement when we ate them, and practically glued our jaws together.
@AbbeyRhode It was like a net of sugar draped over each desert - only small. It looked like spun glass, but when it was in the mouth it turned into superglue. 😂🤣
@BizSuitStacy d The first time I made fried chicken for my husband. I wanted it to look like the Wesson commercial so I fried it on low for an hour turning it constantly. It was beautiful but absolutely no meat left. The poor guy ate it. Now it's one my best meals
(1) the time I punched 18 minutes on high on the microwave rather than 18 seconds to just make the coffee a little warmer, and then got distracted ...... untill !!!!!
(2) not really cooking, but bringing in the groceries and the handhold for a 12 pack of soft drinks failed, and the carton fell, hit the floor and exploded.
(3) also not cooking, but in the kitchen, when a super sized, open container of liquid Tide got knocked over and enough soap for 120 loads of laundry coated the kitchen floor.
@4meAndyou @missyann It took a few weeks to clean up. It was a wood parquet (sp?) Big beach towels at first in hope of absorbing what was possible, wringing them out over over and over, until just the sticky layer. Then wet mopped and blow dried over and over. More soap oozing from between the wood tiles every cycle. Two weeks before we could walk on it without feet sticking to the floor.
@Heartlander That's almost shocking!!! I was worried you might slip and fall...but the length of time it took to get that up...it must have been an absolute heartache!
@4meAndyou Thankfully we didn't have to walk through it. We put a few brick stepping stoned to make it accessible while cleaning up the mess. :) we still reference that incident whenever anyone sees a big super-size container of Tide.
Shortly after we were married my wife was cooking a big meal. Her parents were coming to visit and she was cooking a large roast beef and all the trimmings. Then she wanted to make some cookies. Problem: The roast was in the oven and there was no room to bake the cookies. My dad suggested that she put the cookies in the microwave. Microwaves were very new and neither Dad or Dear Wife were all that familiar with them. They cooked the cookies and then cooked them a little longer when the cookies didn't look brown. The pale cookies cooled and then the big test. Dad almost broke a tooth on the charcoal center of the cookie. The microwave had blackened the middle of the cookie but left the outside looking raw.
Once I was preparing Biriyani and while the rice was getting boiled in cooker I thought I could go for a bath and come within 5-7 mins before it gets completely boiled. But my mind had other ideas.5-6 minutes into the bathroom,I legit forgot completely about the Biriyani and spent almost 30-40 minutes and you know what happens after I remember about the Biriyani.
How funny. The same thing happened to me a couple of nights ago. I had a dinner late full of food which was apparently closer to the edge of the counter than I thought. Next thing I know, everything is on the floor.
When I tried to make red velvet cake with my then toddler and she pulled the batter all over herself and the thick rug. I never could get that red batter fully out of the rug.
@AbbeyRhode lol yeah, I have pictures of her just finished crying so still tears in her eyes but smiling as she discovered how sweet it was licking it off her hand and arm.
@akindheart I recommend you watch food wishes video on oven baked baby back ribs. Follow that recipe and I think you will be happy with the results. I tried it…really good results!
This was a “ save”! I snatched it from disaster-dom, I did. If I did something and it was a disaster, it made the acquaintance of the garbage. Anyway, ergo, the “ save”!…
@missyann basically a sweet potato/ baked apples mix with the seasonings for a sweet potato pie baked an hour or so in a loaf pan. Topped with some of the apples and darkened w/ brown sugar, and topped w/ whipped cream.
For me it was the 1st time I tried to cook for a girl was in high school fixed spaghetti and meatballs Spaghetti was way over cooked and so was meatballs knew nothing about wine was horrible
When i was newly married i cooked one plump looking chicken for 8 people. It shrunk by about a third and i had to order in some food to feed the hungry people
