What was your worst cooking disaster?

Shortly after we were married my wife was cooking a big meal. Her parents were coming to visit and she was cooking a large roast beef and all the trimmings. Then she wanted to make some cookies. Problem: The roast was in the oven and there was no room to bake the cookies. My dad suggested that she put the cookies in the microwave. Microwaves were very new and neither Dad or Dear Wife were all that familiar with them. They cooked the cookies and then cooked them a little longer when the cookies didn't look brown. The pale cookies cooled and then the big test. Dad almost broke a tooth on the charcoal center of the cookie. The microwave had blackened the middle of the cookie but left the outside looking raw.
