Does alcohol really numb your emotions?

Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
Never heard them numb emotions only enhance them. Angry people become agressive. Sad people become crying to friends. Horny people will send nudes to their partners or start dry hump a table and so on.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
No. The exact opposite. Iv known some serious alcoholics in my life and it never numbs you. Its like putting a bandaid on a bruise. You feel like shit about your life so you try to cover it up with good feelings and carlessness. Same concept as drugs. Accept some drugs might actualy numb you. Most people just end up digging there own grave by repeating the process rather than directly fixing the problem because they feel too depleted from the damage to have the will power to even try to climb out of the hole they made. Eventually you grow a tolerance to your vices and its all you know until your body can no longer handle it.

Alcohol starts out as a stimulant but It's really a depressant... so no, it TOTALLY messes with your emotions.
It just slows you down enough to think you're numb.
No. 😬 Mine we’re very heightened; especially anger.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Colonelmustardseed Our repressed emotions are the first that floats up when we drink.
@Queendragonfly Yep. It took me years to address it and to learn to cope. Shortly after, I gave up drinking for my health’s sake.

smiler2012 · 56-60
@Nimbus 😆 waste of good food nimby if you dpo that and spoil it
Ducky · 31-35, F
For me, it either enhances mine or brings out more pleasant ones.
Magnolia21 · 22-25, F
Nope. Some have less effect depending on how you drink, but if anything, they enhance. Drink bourbon when sad to really feel it all, when happy to keep the good times going, but never angry. That's when the police are called, fingerprints are taken, court dates are ignored, and the cycle repeats.
HeidiA · 41-45, F
In my experience it amplifies them.
Depends which alcohol you drink
For me, kind of calms my social anxiety and lets me loosen up a bit.
Sometimes, it depends on how much alcohol I drink.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
No, if anything it tends to bring out the emotions.
backporrch · 46-50, M

backporrch · 46-50, M

Emjay · 18-21, F
It exaggerates them.
Morrigan · F
Alcohol is in reality a depressant, people use it as a means to self medicate to numb mostly thoughts or past trauma. Unfortunately your emotions are taken on a roller-coaster ride as a result.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
it Help people deal with emotions short Term to make them feel good but in long term can be make them Violent Angry miserable
Theliberal · 36-40, M
Some, it seems it helps with anxiety short term but it comes back with a vengance. anger though.. it seems to intensify.
calicuz · 51-55, M
No, it intensifies them. It numbs the part of the brain that uses better judgment.
Teirdalin · 31-35
It really doesn't, it makes you MORE emotional. xD
Iwantout · 26-30, M
It can make them worse or numb them it's a gamble
SW-User
That depends on what you’re drinking
SW-User
Don’t know
I certainly don’t need it or rely on it
Numbs some, exacerbates others until you pass out
TheLordOfHell · 41-45

Yes and no
In the short term they get more intense.
caccoon · 36-40
For me it increases emotions, but lessens anxiety and care. It makes me feel like an invincible ball of overly-social, horny rage
