I think the older you get the less appealing this kind of dining is. There's just too much food and appetite is become less strong. These days I find the sight of a lot of food piled up doesn't help me enjoy eating anymore. When I was younger I'd eat like I was never going to have another meal in my life. 😏
I used to go to them once in a while. They are not for anyone on chemo, not worth the risk of getting sick because it could be serious enough to get hospitalized or even worse.Besides that they are not as much “fun” as they used to be since I can’t have any food with gluten in it.
Not since my son left the house. I don't eat enough to make it worthwhile. When I took my son and other members of his football team we nearly bankrupted the place.

Love it! The best buffet I've been to was the breakfast buffet in the Hotel Shangri-La in Kuala Lumpur, although I fondly remember a restaurant in Orlando that had ice cream on the breakfast buffet as well!
I've not been to one since Covid lockdowns. I do love them though. When I was working in nightclubs, after we'd been drinking through the early morning we used to sometimes go the Holiday Inn in Liverpool for breakfast which started at 6.30am. I once saw Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders there - I guess she wasn't having bacon, sausages and devilled kidneys lol
I used to enjoy them but not so much anymore. I don't like the sight of the food in the containers and I don't like other having to pick through other people's leftovers. The last time I went to Golden Corral about 3 years ago, the people were noisy and left their tables messier than they should have. I like the idea of a variety of food, but the atmosphere was enough for me to lose my appetite and my willingness to return.
Every time we go to Vegas, which is now three times. Got to hit one up at least once a trip there.
Closer to home was the Sizzler (which I worked at for about a year) and the old Scanda House on 27th in Milwaukee. My dad would take us every grading period as an extra treat if we did well on our grades. Oh and Old Country Buffet was around too.
@SleepingWithGhosts I've seen and so very nasty things that people do. Plus you have no idea how long the food was been sitting out there

My best friend took me to her favorite over the weekend, i had never been we both perfected the sin of gluttony. Although I'm a little high maintenance, and prefer buffets with servers so that way just not anyone can dip from the food.
I have been to them before, like at a hotel, but it's not my preferred way to eat. "All-you-can-eat" is just wasted on me as someone who can't eat much in one sitting.
My mother used to LOVE going to the Old Country Buffet. We actually had to DRIVE to Brockton to take her...but it was her favorite thing in the whole world. We always had to get a table right next to the soft serve ice cream machine...🤣🤣🤣.
The food was VERY similar to cafeteria food. VERY bland. IMO VERY horrible food...but she would go back for plate after plate after plate!!!
@4meAndyou The best buffet we had in this area was Hometown Buffet. They had one on north side in OKC and another on the south side.Both were always really good and I had my favorite dishes…chicken & dumplings, a baked spinach dish, barbecue beef ribs on Thursday dinner, so many good salads, desserts, meats too. When they left we would sometimes go to Golden Corral. The crowd was really loud and noisy at Golden Corral on Sundays and we stopped going on Sunday. It was never like that at Hometown Buffet.
@SleepingWithGhosts Used to go to a Golden Corral but have seen some people begging nearby at an intersection. Someone who volunteered at a shelter warned a few years ago about the public library being a vector for disease due to transients and homeless hanging around all day. She said all surfaces that were touched could be places with hepatitis and other serious disease-causing germs.The same lady also volunteers at the largest food & shelter so she was quite aware of this.
