Because Canada they get decent burgers, you can get a sit down breakfast. It's closer in Canada to a real restaurant where as in the states it's tucked into the back of the janitorial closet
A&W sold Canadian operations years ago. The American one stayed how they were and the Canadian one geared more towards a "premium" product. That coupled with Canada's more aggressive meat ratings standards results in a superior product.
@Tickletime Yes I had A&W when I was a kid then they all left and then came back in the late 90's. I don't remember what it was like before, I was young and we didn't go much.
In the US AnW It’s kind of a minor change, not when you’re seeing all the cities but popular in the countryside. I’ve never had the pleasure of trying them in Canada. We have a few of those rural regionals. Like Dairy Queen as well
There hasn't been an A&W near me since I was a little kid out in Nebraska...and back then, they were awesome! I used to get coke floats instead of root beer floats, and then let the ice cream melt before I drank it.
Don't know what A&W in Canada is like, but I've always liked the food they serve in the US. Unfortunately, there seems to be fewer and fewer of them (in America) as time goes by.
@Rolexeo There is still an A&W restaurant, with carhop service, where it originated in Lodi, California. Not the original, which actually was a cart, but close to where Mr. Allen served his first frosty mug. There is a historical marker where he served the first mug at a parade. But few and far between these days. The reason McDonald's came to dominate the fast food franchise industry initially, and overtake other franchise chains like A&W, was the tight quality control that Mr. Kroc insisted upon during his lifetime.
I wonder if there is still the A&W Drive-in in Heidelberg, Germany? When I was stationed in Frankfurt with the Army, it was not uncommon for several homesick guys to jump in a taxi and pay to go to that drive-in.
All the fast food in the US has gone to shits…except for maybe In-n-Out. But when you go overseas, they’re so much better!!! Like MCD and KFC in Japan for example…OMG they’re sooooo gooood!!!
