Why is a&w canada better than a&w US?

It is like night and day
SW-User
all fast food is better outside the US because most countries ban additives and and other "ingredients" that the US allows
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@SW-User true. Canada has higher food safety standards.
All the fast food in the US has gone to shits…except for maybe In-n-Out. But when you go overseas, they’re so much better!!! Like MCD and KFC in Japan for example…OMG they’re sooooo gooood!!!
WiFiWitch · 41-45, F
@Haniazed definitely a bucket list thing to see if foreign mcdonalds taste any better
Massageman · 70-79, M
Maybe they use real sugar there instead of corn syrup sweeteners???????
@Massageman That would be my guess. Same reason Mexican Coke is so much better.
Massageman · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues Yes- very much so!
Because Canada they get decent burgers, you can get a sit down breakfast. It's closer in Canada to a real restaurant where as in the states it's tucked into the back of the janitorial closet

Heading to Canada next week. Good to know!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Handfull1 Ah welcome to my general area!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Handfull1 I was in the American Niagara Falls about 3 weeks ago.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@JimboSaturn any tips would be helpful. You can PM me!
probably they use sugar in Canada and corn syrup in the US. it makes a big difference
496sbc · 36-40, M
U mean the rootbeer
WiFiWitch · 41-45, F
@496sbc the restaurant
496sbc · 36-40, M
@WiFiWitch i never went there but i wana try a stewarts rootbeer and restaurant
@496sbc you haven't lived until you've eaten at Stewarts and had their root beer in a frosted Mug
Tickletime · 31-35, M
A&W sold Canadian operations years ago. The American one stayed how they were and the Canadian one geared more towards a "premium" product. That coupled with Canada's more aggressive meat ratings standards results in a superior product.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Tickletime Yes I had A&W when I was a kid then they all left and then came back in the late 90's. I don't remember what it was like before, I was young and we didn't go much.
Dshhh · M
In the US AnW It’s kind of a minor change, not when you’re seeing all the cities but popular in the countryside. I’ve never had the pleasure of trying them in Canada. We have a few of those rural regionals. Like Dairy Queen as well
Lilymoon · F
Also we have Mr. Sub. 😋 😛
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
Very interesting. I still remember getting frosted mugs of root beer from the A@W drive in restaurants when I was a kid. Yeah, I'm old.
Loved them!

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@RuyLopez They have frosted mugs of root beer in Canada.
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
@JimboSaturn My sister lives near Toronto. She’s been holding out on me apparently! 🤨
4meAndyou · F
There hasn't been an A&W near me since I was a little kid out in Nebraska...and back then, they were awesome! I used to get coke floats instead of root beer floats, and then let the ice cream melt before I drank it.

Maple syrup

I wonder if there is still the A&W Drive-in in Heidelberg, Germany? When I was stationed in Frankfurt with the Army, it was not uncommon for several homesick guys to jump in a taxi and pay to go to that drive-in.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Don't know what A&W in Canada is like, but I've always liked the food they serve in the US. Unfortunately, there seems to be fewer and fewer of them (in America) as time goes by.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
It's probably more popular in Canada. I don't even have an A&W resturant in my state.
WiFiWitch · 41-45, F
@Rolexeo really? I thought they were everywhere. A&w america has some pretty gross burgers
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@WiFiWitch Yeah, just depends where you go. No Arby's either.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Rolexeo There is still an A&W restaurant, with carhop service, where it originated in Lodi, California. Not the original, which actually was a cart, but close to where Mr. Allen served his first frosty mug. There is a historical marker where he served the first mug at a parade. But few and far between these days. The reason McDonald's came to dominate the fast food franchise industry initially, and overtake other franchise chains like A&W, was the tight quality control that Mr. Kroc insisted upon during his lifetime.

Real sugar also usa banned the Use of sassafras root. Yes ours has artificial flavoring in the US

WiFiWitch · 41-45, F

Repete · 61-69, M
That was my daughter’s favorite, @WiFiWitch
GrinNude · 61-69, C
Probably the cleaner water has a lot to do with it. Not as many forever chemicals (pfas) in Canada.
meJess · F
Why don’t people ask open questions, instead if making their opinion into a question?
WiFiWitch · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine the organic veggie burger is only in canada
Hatt94 · 56-60, M
@WiFiWitch love their breakfast.
@WiFiWitch I love Canada and them Crazy Canucks 🇨🇦
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I haven’t been to a&w in the states in 40 years so I can’t compare
GlitterEater · 36-40, F

WiFiWitch · 41-45, F
@GlitterEater canada has to be day
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Root beer is just root beer

Iwillwait · M

Do you folks have Five Guys Burgers ?
Hatt94 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard yes. Good burgers, tons of fries.
@Hatt94 Yes, they’re my absolute favorite.
I believe A&W Canada still uses sugar, that hfcs was banned there.
