So Bill Gates decided to give billions to his worldwide causes

A Sad Bill Gates Makes a Huge Announcement
...Maybe he should pick one thing and fix it before going onto the next. If i were ridiculously rich i would try to end homelessness.

what would you do?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Gates thinks globally.. And malaria is the biggest single killer and the biggest handbrake of development in the developing world. And thats where most of his money goes.. Also Warren Buffett passes his chartible gifts to the Gates Foundation, being so impressed with the way its run, so avoid duplicating effort.
I agree homelessness is a massive problem itself. But it is one America is completely capable of solving for itself if the government had the will to do it. That it still exists is an indictment on the State and Federal leadership.😷
@chrisCA people are idiots
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@DIABLISS I totally agree with everything you say about the problem of the homeless. And I can tell you that the problem is worse in America than most other developed nations. But I see it as a failure of government policy to deal with the problems iof returned damaged Vets, drug dependence and mental illness, which together, account for the majority of those poor souls. This isnt the only example of the US system throwing its most vulnerable under a bus in favour of tax breaks for the rich and corporate greed. One medical support charity that was intended to fly volunteer medical clinics into remote areas of the South American Amazon is now fully committed to regularly run fly in fly out mobile clinics into Virginia and Kentucky.
So as I see it, Why would Gates commit his funds to make up the gap in services for the US government, who have the resources, but choose not to use them for their own people?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman good points...my only problem is that he needs to pick something and stay with that. if you spread a bunch of money around that is all you are doing...the money flows away like water. Even if he were to spend all of it on making more people like himself...help the startups, etc...i would say "well that's nice. it's his money." and it would be creating jobs and helping people he can relate to. But giving a bunch of money to his organization that is spread out all over the world...well, i don't think that is actually helping anyone. it just seems like a great idea.

Yes if I had money like that I would help people with micro loans so they could start a business and keep creating wealth for themselves. World Neighbors does this in various countries. I would do it here in the USA too and when they repay the loan the money would be used for more micro loans for others. When you help people work for themselves it helps get them out of poverty. Also would create tiny home communities so that people could have an affordable place to live without having to pay a fortune in utility bills every month. The communities would have gardens to grow food, fruit trees and a community building to gather to have community meetings, to hold potlucks or as a place to celebrate something, to hold craft sales, swap meets & community garage sales for the residents to be able to make a little money. One reason people are becoming homeless here in my area is because they aren’t finding affordable apartments. Even tiny efficiency apartments are going for $750 and there aren’t enough of those to go around around.
@cherokeepatti life is so unfair
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DIABLISS I believe that the system will change for the better. Tax system will be on goods, not on labor or services. Some necessities that even low-income people will need such as groceries, garden supplies, and good used items won’t be taxed either. Federal taxes will go back to the states and anything the government needs to spend money on will come from taxes on goods. The system will be good for the environment because more will be motivated to recycle or upcycle their things or sell to others who need them.
@cherokeepatti i wish i had your glass in front of me. yours seems to be half full and mine is half empty. I think things are gonna get much worse. we are evolving back to a time when it was dangerous if you weren't a middle aged white American male. I have always thought that the world was gonna end in 2034. i don't know why i always dreamt it was that year, but i do. i knew the pandemic was coming long before it happened and i knew that when i watched the Chinese on the news concerning their "Yet another illness" that it was "gonna be real bad".

I worry more about this particular war with Russia and Afghanistan because of the catalyst that it is becoming. it isn't just another one of those tiny wars that "those people" are having over there. We should have been involved personally from the get go.

Like i said, "i wish i had your glass in front of me. "
I would help all the people who are working for minimum wage. the ones who are barely scraping by.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush Most of them will have no other choice because their liberal degrees won’t pay them diddly squat.
@cherokeepatti If you ever want to look for one just go to your local Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. .... thats where they work ........ they might as well walk around with a sign that says "I have an advanced degree in something that it not marketable in the least" LOL
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush haha I don’t go to those places. Maybe they work in Natural Grocers or Sprouts though.

He’s clearly trying to get control or at least massively influence the worlds food supply. At the same time 97 US food processing and storage facilities have been destroyed, mostly by fire, in the last two years.
Whyme · 46-50, M
@redredred you have no idea what hes doing with it he could be saving ducks youve just decided hes bad so hes bad
redredred · M
@Whyme I’ve just asked reasonable questions about odd activity and related unusual activity. Draw your own conclusions but don’t be afraid to ask questions.
redredred · M
I’d say bill gates philanthropy is spot on
@chrisCA then your comment made no sense and you knew it
@DIABLISS I stand by my comment. I’m a fan of the gates foundation. And I’m a fan of philanthropy. I’m philanthropic, and my causes are no one else’s business. I believe that those who are critical of the philanthropy of others ought to up their own philanthropy.
chrisCA · M
@BiasForAction Many wealthy people believe that giving to charity is one reason for their success.
People always seem to be experts at spending other people’s money.
@DIABLISS Calm yourself. I’m not saying all homeless people would react this way. But through my experience of years of having to work with these people there is a sizeable demographic of homeless people who seem to expect hand outs and second chances without ever changing their self destructive behaviour. There are some people in this position who are there through their own choices. Do you intend to vet these people and dump them on the streets, or will you fight their battles for them throughout their lives? How will you differentiate between the two?
@DazzaTheHutt this is why i would pick groups of people at a time. while one group is settling into their new environment, i would start working on the next
@DIABLISS Okay that’s fine
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
He takes money from one pocket and puts it in his other pocket and everyone thinks he’s awesome.

Listen…you don’t get rich from being a nice guy.
Whyme · 46-50, M
I would wonder why everyone thinks they should tell me what to do with my money
@Whyme i was just wondering
Whyme · 46-50, M
@DIABLISS im not being a smart ass lol thats really what i would think lol
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I would drill fresh water wells. Everyone deserves clean water.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@SweetMae So, does the Gates Foundarion!

“Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
Our goal. To enable widespread use of safely managed, sustainable sanitation services that contribute to positive health, economic, and gender equality outcomes for the world’s poorest people.”

https://www.gatesfoundation.org/our-work/programs/global-growth-and-opportunity/water-sanitation-and-hygiene
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SweetMae yes and help them with water filters to remove chemicals or heavy metals from the water. Some of the water wells the city used here are contaminated with arsenic due to many years of cotton farming. Other wells are contaminated with chromium hexavalent. And then there’s fluoride and chlorine which can mess with thyroid and cause problems with the pineal gland and bipolar. And nitrates in groundwater from farming.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Bill Gates is not in the business of fixing anything except to fulfill a depopulation agenda. They don’t give one 💩 about the poor, whether they have housing, or their well-being. All that money he gave for “charity” is actually being used for evil.
smiler2012 · 56-60
yes that is a good cause and say hunger around the world [lilymaesixty1]
@smiler2012 i would fix America first because i am an American and would be able to maneuver the country more easily
smiler2012 · 56-60
@DIABLISS 😄ok fair i understand what you say home is where the heart is and i get that, but on the scale of problems and human suffering in the world i would priorotise that well down my list
@smiler2012 wrong....charity begins at home. it would be much more efficient to help your own country first ...where you are familiar with surroundings and speak the same language...then span out to other countries.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
If I was filthy rotten rich I would pay someone else to work on my car.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Not sure, probably a million here, a billion there. Definitely some donations for animals.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
You’re angry at Bill Gates for giving away billions. Got it.

Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@DIABLISS If you did research you would see that the Gates foundation has enough to do multiple things. You may not like Microsoft Word, but that doesn't give you the right to criticize the Gates Foundation for all of the amazing work they do. I suspect you're jealous because you have done so little to help others. The man has given away BILLIONS and yet because he didn't solve homelessness your panties are in a wad. Grow up, child.
@Fukfacewillie I think that you are the most childish person i have spoken to here. i did not insult him. and why do idiots always start with "if you did research...". you did not do any research at all before sticking your big fat nose into this conversation. and i have done alot of volunteer work and i am poor. and i have never been jealous of anyone in my life. you are a strange troll that comes onto a thread and misinterprets everything the OP has to say.
