It depends on the relationship they established with each parent. A child is a blank slate that responds to thier environment.

Both would be pretty difficult underage, and of course the closeness is a factor. My losing my mother even as an adult was difficult, and I don’t expect it will be any easier when I have to say goodbye to Pop. I’m grateful to have had them as long as I have; but I’ll miss them terribly. I miss Mom a great deal. 😭

I can't imagine losing my parent's. I spent more time with my mom then with my dad.
Wiseacre · F
Probably mom, but also dad..if it’s a boy.
either or just the same...but as an adult i loved my parents both just the same. my mom's death was a little harder to take. both of them suffered cruel deaths but as mom was dying i could see the "momma bear" in her trying to cope....that was a tough one
Munumbis · 46-50, M
A mom or dad that would be better if they were lost.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I think both are really hard.
I don't think it matters what age when you lose your parents it's hard.
I was in my late 30's with dad and middle 40's with mom .
It is more difficult ,I will admit ,growing up without a parent ,because they died when the child was very young.

Being underage and losing your Mom can be horrible.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
My mom died suddenly when i was 11, my dad when i was 18. One never gets past that.
WormMan · 56-60, M
I think both are pretty horrific
Reject · 31-35, M
Not all moms and dads are equal. The role they play as a parent is less about gender and more about character.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
I lost my dad underage. Dont know which is worse.
Mom perhaps.
But i hate to be unfair to him.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Losing whichever is the breadwinner.
Bleak · 36-40, F
Both are equally horrifying.
Iwillwait · M
Either will have an effect that will not be undeniable.
It's the same for both.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Both my parents lost their father's young. Both lost their mother a bit later in life. Still fairly young adults. There was no difference in the four losses.

No, I never saw any of those four. 😞

The loss only builds.
kodiac · 26-30, M
Losing both at the same time
HumanEarth · F
Both are rotten - but honesty it depends on who the child was close the child was to the parent, their age, and other factors. Its not cookie cutter answer
Houdini · 56-60, M
I think losing any parent would be extremely hard for a child to deal with. It tuff enough for a adult to deal with
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
My husband died unexpectedly from a brain hemorrhage just under two years ago. My kids were 18, 17 and 13 at the time. Telling them their dad had passed was the hardest thing I ever had to do. My youngest especially, he has learning disabilities and he just screamed and screamed, they was especially close but it's been really hard for all of them. I don't think it would matter which parent. There's an invisible bond no matter what and it's incredibly painful to process no matter what your age is, even more so for kids who are still developing emotionally.

My cousin lost her 16 year old son last year in a knife attack. He was stabbed over a £20 drug debt. He wasn't a saint this boy,but hoping his death, shows his friend's to walk a straighter line in life
SarahTheHooker · 26-30, F
@MrVintage71 Oh, bloody hell. I am so sorry for you cousin's, and your, loss. Knife crime, I really detest it.

Sarah 💋

@SarahTheHooker Trials just begun..three lads 15-17 up on charges x
Losing either can be tramatic
Too many variables to determine...

Having to make this kind of choice.
GoFish ·
having to see either or being at a loss with either or worse both

You cant really say as everyone's situation is different. I never knew my father, but my Grandmother brought me up as I wasn't wanted. Sometimes in life, you have to be grateful you had anyone.
I have empathy for the loss of both. However i would need to know more context to truly understand the situation but ultimately it doesn’t come down to my decision. It’s up to the kid to decide. Sad either way.
