Start having bills you cannot afford tell him you need him to have income to help u. Things like internet electricity. Food Or start selling things of his he no longer uses tell him its to pay the bills. Suggest he works to help out. Tast kinda thing. Things are expensive everywhere. More and more. It needs to be real for him to understand.
Does he still live with you if so encourage him to leave is it possible solution if he doesn't live with you well you raised him as best you could he will have to learn on his own
@Quetzalcoatlus Sometimes folk get violent when that happens, internet addiction isn't less destructive than other types, it just presents differently.

Probably needs a change of environment. It's easy to withdraw when there is nowhere outside worth going to or nowhere where they feel they can belong or derive fulfillment from.
Somebody a way, way back told your son that it was OKAY for him to play video games, sleep until noon and be rude whenever he wanted to. Perhaps you should find that person responsible and take up your son's behavior with them?
Turn off internet for a month, see where that leads. Tell him if his attitude is just as shitty after 30 days you may extend it. Call it internet Tariffs. Its on, its off, you forget you turned it off, then forget you turned it on.
