My daughter starts kindergarten this year… I’m excited for her but I’m going to miss her terribly (hahaha I make it sound like she is moving away for college)

@WaryWitchWandering Unfortunately that’s not really much of an option
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
@SW-User I totally understand

@WaryWitchWandering Just how it goes sometimes.

I think when parents have their kids at home for the summer it is only normal to reach a point that they want them to return to school. Kids need structured time. The first month of summer is great. Everyone is happy. Then it gets harder. By the end of summer, the kids need a routine. And the parents are ready for back to normal schedules. Do not feel badly nor guilty. Just enjoy the summer. Kids grow so fast. In time their being home in the summer will just be a distant memory. Trust me on that.

This is why they send the kids to so many after school classes even in the summer in Asia lol

@SW-User I think they are onto something
Strictextendedfamily · 18-21, F
What happens with them now ?@SW-User
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
That's normal. But as the parent, you do have the job of teaching them not to act in ways that are annoying to others. That's an important lesson that fewer and fewer kids are being taught.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@SW-User you can discipline in non-physical ways.

SW-User
@DearAmbellina2113 i agree but then they are taught you are emotionally abusive
fishescycle · 26-30
@SW-User I'm struggling to see where you mentioned anything about disciplining in physical ways. I must have missed something.

@ImpeccablyImperfect I never felt that way. I still want my kids home.

SW-User
@originnone and this is how I think I should feel, so I feel guilty when I don't feel this way..
originnone · 61-69, M
@SW-User Please don't feel guilty. You love your kids and you want the people you love to be near you.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
it's cool. Just don't pop the champagne till they are well out of the gate.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I was looking forward to a little bit of peace and calm while she spent five days at gymnastics camp. But I missed her terribly and ended up calling every night 😥
@SunshineGirl You are a really good mom. 💝
Jessicablumen · F
I think that is normal. Kids can be very annoying :D
chrisCA · M
@Jessicablumen That is in their job description for being a kid. 😅

This sounds familiar.
Children can't handle occupying themselves quietly and safely for too long.
This is why school lessons are set at twenty minutes/half-hour/hour long sessions.
From my experience you really have to organize their day when they're on holiday.
Trying to do ANYTHING personally is rarely possible while they're awake.

Trust me I was in your shoes, but I couldn't send them off to school.
I didn't believe in the USA education system. So we homeschooled them.
So we were stuck with the little monsters till they moved out

My mom sends me to my Grandparents house a lot during the summer. If not, she'd just whoop me a majority of the vacation.

SW-User

Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
It’s just difficult

I think your story is the same the whole world over! I had a conversation with a woman at a shop checkout in England a few days ago, whose kids were running riot - she said she couldn't wait for term to start again

SW-User
Haha mine started preschool on the 9th and I HATE it! I am sure it’s different once they get older. I miss her so much during the day
UnderTheBridge · 51-55, M
parents need to have their own space and time too, to become a better parent.

If you wish to chat don’t hesitate to message me to talk about it

@Strictmichael75 Thank you. I'm still trying to figure out how to use everything here.

No, what you’re experiencing is pretty normal, I’ve observed. 😊
Colonelmustardseed · 36-40
My mom used to say that to my sisters and I. “I can’t wait till you all go back to damn school…” in her thick accent, and we all just laughed at her because it sounded like “dumb school.”
