My daughter moved away today

She left today to move to Australia. We’ve spent the past month helping her purge and pack. It’s been exhausting. It didn’t seem real though until this morning as I was driving to work. It hit me out of nowhere and I cried. I almost never cry. I will really miss her

So I've been flitting around the world since graduating university at 22. I just bought a townhouse about forty minutes from Mom & Dad. She may come back. 😁

My son also lives far away - very hard and even now 5 years later I feel it, but it's bittersweet....

On the good side - they learn to spread their wings and become who they were meant to be, which is better than anything

And now for the fun part....you go visit and learn about and become friendly with another part of the world....with them...

@fun4us2b it’s true that this will be a great experience for her. I’m very happy for her.

@Jenny1234 And you too - be sure to visit often!

Dang I can only imagine how that must have felt. I personally didn't feel much when leaving my mom's house as she was never too supportive or nice to me anyways although j assume your relationship with them was different.

I hope you both cope up with the separation the best way you can. It's just a temporary thing also so, yinow, eventually you'll meet again
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Andromedanian she actually moved out about ten years ago but it’s just strange she won’t be a 20 minute drive away anymore. I’m really excited for her but she’ll be so far away

@Jenny1234 do you have other children?
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
Now I wonder how many times my mom has cried over me.
I get emotional just thinking about my babies moving out, so I can imagine how emotional it must be when it happens for real.
You should go and visit her, make it an adventurous experience for both of you

@Ghostinthemachine i think I will go visit next year but I’ll need drugs from my family doctor to get through the flights. I’m not good at flying
@Jenny1234 Its definitely a long flight, but I found Quantas made that part of the travel as pleasant as possible

Where about in Australia.

I am very confident she will be safe, and you can call her and video time with her when you need

@quietwhispers101 I like him very much. He’s from France but was working and living here in Toronto for the past few years and his job took him to Melbourne. He and his family are really good to her. She’s divorced so she’s not in any hurry to remarry if at all
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Is she planning this to be permanent?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@samueltyler2 definitely a year or two minimum
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Jenny1234 you don't want to hope it is not successful, but at least, it may not be permanent. I was stationed overseas in the military, it is rough. Luckily, there are electronic communication that helps. The time difference will be an interference though.

Always difficult when our children fly from the nest. But smile as they soar.
There's always Skype and Zoom, but I know it's not the same.

I can't even imagine.

It’s good to cry, and you felt better after
Are you planning to go visit her?
That would be amazing

I dread the day that happens.

@Stereoguy her boyfriend got a job there and she’s going with him. She hasn’t lived at home for a long time (she’s 35) but she’ll just be so far away. I’m just feeling sorry for myself today lol

I would be sad too. That’s really far away. Will you go visit?
