How does it feel like to have a strong father?

My father struggled with depression my whole childhood and teen years and our roles were often reversed. I've just always wished to have a strong shoulder to lean on. I would wish one of the alpine climbers at my mountaneering club would be my father. Then I would have their fearless genes, wouldn't doubt if I'm capable to ever climb multi pitch routes and wouldn't have to preventively look after any first signs of depression due to my predesposition.

sounds like you do have a strong father though. Dealing with depression is no small thing

@Torsten Hmm, never thought about it that way...🤔

@LillyJulia yeah its one way to look at it for sure.
My mother has not left her house really since I was around 19 due to mental health issues and past trauma, and I wish things were different and done things I have not been able to do with her and I remember wishing for a time that she was like other mothers i see out and about but Now i see it a whole other way. She deals with as much as she can for her kids and will always be there to help one way or another. She cant do what a lot of other mothers do but she makes up for it so much more in other ways.
It really just is how you look at it. Its easy to look at others parents and see something that might not even be real.
Everything looks easier being on the outside i guess

@jshm2 Yeah, you're right... I tend to pitty myself from time to time...

There’s different types of strong. And people who have struggles and keep fighting are stronger than those who haven’t had to face this type of challenge.

But in short, I feel lucky. My Dad is an absolute legend.

If your dad was there for you he was strong.

I wouldn't know 🤷‍♀️
If I may, share with you about my father.
He was a strong man. old fashioned, "iron fist, set in his ways kind of man". That is my father. He was a humble man, and very knowledgeable. He was smart but he did not show it. https://similarworlds.com/5404324-I-Dont-Know-How-To-Grieve/3827196-Have-you-ever-lost-a-parent-I-lost-my-father-a

Im sorry you have to deal with a person with depression. I know what its like from both sides. I was with someone who was extremely depressed and then i shattered my own life. Its terrible for everyone involved.
Grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Do you have any idea how many people wish they were in your shoes:? Cherish your family while you still have them.
My father was the head of the house. My mother did what she needed to do. When i left home i continued the DD life style

It must have been hard for, it must have been harder for him.

I wish you well
