When my mom forced me to babysit for her friends, when I was about 10, so they could go out and get drunk, the friends would pay me approx 50usd, give me a ton of snacks and video games to keep me occupied.
My daughter got paid £20 for her first babysitting a couple of weeks ago. About three hours work. But she's only 13 and fell asleep towards the end, so I had to help her out 🙂
Just try charging more next time and if that is accepted then you will know. Sounds like too little to me but I have never babysat nor paid anyone to do it.
When it comes to what is too little or too much pay the only way to find out for sure is to try asking for more and see if you both get it and continue to get work.
How frequently do you babysit? Is this a primary job or just getting a little extra?
If you do a few hours a week across different people you could probably raise your prices $5 across the board.
If you are consistently babysitting for the same people, many hours a week, you might have to determine if they can still afford services after a price increase. Especially if it's because they are working or something. I'd feel less bad raising prices if it's so they could go out on dates and such.
First of all, I think most states now require babysitters to take classes for first aid and cpr to become certified and licensed, that they will tell you what the average service costs are for parents tonpay.
