Hard to tell what your reasoning for doing such is, particularly not knowing what your experience growing up with your adopted parents was. It obviously can be an explosive emotional minefield for everyone involved. I know people who have successfully done it. First, whatever your real reasons may be for doing so, the undeniable and safest justification is wanting to know your genetic profile to add to your medical history. Treatment is being guided more and more frequently by your genetic history. That takes it out of the emotional minefield. Second, don't be judgmental in how you frame the discussions, the questions. Your adoptive parents may not have done as well as you would have liked, but they did step up when your birth parents didn't feel they could raise you, and they did raise you. And until you track down your birth parents and have a discussion with them, you don't know what the circumstances were that led them to feel you would be better off raised by someone else. And even then, they may not be willing to disclose their reasons. Focus on better understanding what was driving each sides choices & decisions at the time; focus on getting to know your birth parents without making comparisons or criticizing either if you truly just want to know more about how you got to where you are.

@dancingtongue well said..
That may be true. They had absolutely no legal responsibility to adopt you, nurture you, and guide you.

But that’s what parental love is. I wish you luck when/if you find them. But…for whatever reasons…they did not stay with you.

Have you tried a 23 and Me type DNA service. They would likely identify a few cousins who in turn could possibly spread some light on who your genetic family was/is.

FWIW, you might also check the bio of songwriter/entertainer Mary Gauthier. She likewise was adopted and she struggled with it; and almost went off the deep end as a run-away, car thief teen. Some merciful Kansas judge gave her a choice between jail and serious rehab and it was uphill from there.

You’ve got it all backwards. Anyone can pop out a baby. It’s the people who are there for you day in and day out, in good times and bad times who are your parents. Too bad you didn’t learn to be grateful to them for taking you in and raising you when they were under no obligation to do so.

They raised you. That counts for something significant. Your biological parents gave you up. They had their reasons. I hope the way you feel now isn't destroyed when you find them. Good luck for a positive ending.

It’s easier to give birth to a child than it is to raise one. Be grateful you had people that wanted to raise you as their own.

In your search, you may find out things you didn't ever want to know. You might find out that your birth mother was a drug addict. You might find out she was only 15 years old and got pregnant in high school. You might find out that your birth grandparents were ashamed of her, and you, and wouldn't allow her to keep you.

You might find out that your birth mother is married and has another family now, and made no effort to find you.

OR you might discover that your birth mother died.

I KNOW that you really just need to KNOW. But please be prepared for discovering things you don't like.

Seems like they did a mistake in adopting you and making efforts to brought you up.

If you was smart, your adopted parents could have help you on that. But you want to put them down. I'm blocking you so. I'll not see what you say. Hope one day u will smarten up.
