Would you lie to the police to protect a member of your family ?

No. No one in my family is a criminal, so it would not be an issue. The truth could only help them.
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Good to hear :)

I worked for a while in a prison. One of our inmates had lied to the police to protect his son, who had murdered someone. As a result, the man, who was now in his 70’s, was charged as an accessory, and basically was sentenced the same as if he had committed the murder himself, despite having no involvement. He was serving a 25 year sentence. California has a new program to grant early parole some elderly inmates who have already served a good portion of their sentence, however, he was told he was not eligible for this, because he was convicted of a violent crime, which he technically didn’t commit. At one point he and his son had even been cell mates. I always felt kind of bad for him.

No. If ANY member of my family broke the law, I would believe that they NEEDED to accept the consequences of their actions.

When my son was a young teenager, he got caught shoplifting fishing lures at Rich's department store. The ex and I went to see the the judge PRIOR to his court meeting, and asked him to go as hard as possible on my son...to teach him a lesson. My son had to do community service at a local food pantry.

@MarineBob some of the tribes administer that type of justice in various areas of Oklahoma.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti It's a great way of trying to TEACH the young people NOT to screw up!
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@4meAndyou Make them do some type of community service, get their hands dirty and get humbled and think about what they’ve done.

Lawyer .... always
No, likely not but I only like a couple members of my family.
MarineBob · 61-69, M
Would they lie to protect me
Nimbus · M
@MarineBob Good point!
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
No. A woman has just been jailed here for hiding the knife her son used to kill another man. There are serious consequences for obstructing the Police in their enquiries, no matter how much you love them.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@FreddieUK Even worse in that case, was trying to hide evidence of unlawful killing.

(I was being careful there. I don't know if the son was charged with murder or manslaughter.)
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@ArishMell He was convicted of murder. He has started the Appeal procedure.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@FreddieUK Thankyou.
I would say anything to the police to get them effing

HUMANIZED
Not for any member of my blood relatives!
I do have one friend that I would bury a body for, but he has a proven track record.
TurtlePink · F
If the family member wasn’t a problematic person and we got along
BacktobeingFrank · 61-69
My wife would never do anything that would require me to lie to the police. The rest of my family, I wouldn't lie to the police for them. Lock 'em up.
GoFish ·
eh depends if the family member was bad or the laws were bad you know?
Nimbus · M
@GoFish Indeed, that is a consideration 👍
GoFish ·
@Nimbus yeah.. sigh

What if they're gonna call you a liar no matter what you say anyway?

FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@MasterLee It ain't days past ovulation...it's Darin Peter Oswald
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@FloorGenAdm yes I know
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
No I wouldn’t. The problem is that the police should have been talking to me, my other sister, my grandmother and others after she died. Instead they refused to reopen the case and took my father’s word for it and my older sister backed him up. She always was a liar and still is.
DearAmbellina2113 · 46-50, F
Nope. They're toxic and if they committed a crime, they're gonna pay for it.
MyNameIsHurl · 46-50, F
Depends on which member and what they did. I wouldnt protect anyone that raped or murdered someone, or hurt babies or children
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I can't really see a scenario where that's likely to happen
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
shuhak · M
No. Lying has a way of come back around and biting the liar in the "end".
Munumbis · 46-50, M
Depends on what the individual in question did. If ot was an actual crime like theft or murder no. A made up crime like no car insurance or no permit for some assinine reason or anything to do with taxes definitely.
