Is it normal for a mother to try to find a girlfriend for her son?

It depends on your standards of what you consider as "normal".
I'm sure it happens everywhere. However, the rate that it occurs in is different for different cultures. It is also important to define "find".
For example, my mother is my teacher, she always puts me and this girl together for group projects and seating plans, and we started dating...etc. Or my mother forced me to go to church, where I fell in love with a girl there, and my mother shipped us upon realization...etc.

@LadyInBlack Yea it sorta depends. Personally I haven't seen it happen much

Some
Mothers do it because they are concerned about their son being lonely. If done discreetly there isn’t anything wrong with it. More importantly it’s better to figure out why he isn’t social.

@Spectra He needs a good father figure to help him with women. My dad was super alpha male… I never felt comfortable asking him
About how to be a man… and he never told me… years of learning on my own. I have great advice if I have a son!

@Muthafukajones Yea I've heard dads are like that with their sons but I do feel a lot of guys would be better off if they did feel that comfort. Think a lot of guys are sort of just lost in some ways. Same goes for women and their mothers. A lot of us grew up with insecurities mostly just from being a teenager in school where for some reason there's just this inherent tension. Everyone wanted to be the skinniest, prettiest, have the best hair etc. stuff like that. And that was even before social media was as prominent as it is now. I had a family that always emphasized self-love, focus on values vs all the superficial things in life. I still have my own issues but my heart really goes out to ppl who didn't have that support growing up.

Yes... I think it's kind of traditional when you look at all of time and all of history..

If people think someone would be good for another person. Whether it's a brother, a sister, a cousin.. You'll at least have the thought about how well they'd match someone you know..

Being bold enough to pursue it is an entirely different category though..

In some countries yes

Mine never found me a gf but did have one of her friends take my virginity.
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@SW-User Mine prevented one of her friends from taking mine and her friend really wanted to show me how to "make love to a woman". Little did either of them know that i am gay and had no interest in her whatsoever 🤪
SW-User
@spjennifer lol jokes on both of them
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@SW-User tbh, I don't think what either of them did was wrong but yeah. This lady was very attractive too and only early 30's when i was like 15 but for me had the wrong equipment so was kind of glad my Mom prevented it from happening 🤪

The question should, in my opinion, be: would a bloke accept somebody his mother was trying to fix him up with?
JPWhoo · 36-40, M
No. I’ve never had a girlfriend before and although I want one very badly anyone my mother suggests is out of the running.
Spectra · 26-30, F
@JPWhoo Yea I don't blame ya
moonlighting · 46-50, M

Donna15 · 41-45, F
Not common in the USA but I believe it’s the norm in some cultures
Pawpaw2molly · 61-69, M
As long as she’s not trying to fix him up with her friends
Not a gf but a wife yes. It's called arrange marriage 😂
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
In some cultures arranged marriages are 'normal'.
SW-User
I would think it as weird but sweet.
if its norman bates...
Teslin · M
Ask my ex-wife 😅

Its not uncommon. Especially for a yenta mother.
No I don't think it's normal, unless he is so shy he'll never get a girl, then maybe Mommas help would be ok
spjennifer · 61-69, T
I think it's fairly common everywhere unless the son shuts it down. Mom's want to find nice girls for their boys to marry, even if unbeknownst to them their son is gay or not interested. I think it happens more often as the son gets older and is still single.

Yes. It's a weird motherly trait that while not prevalent, it is an awkward niche
chasingThursday · 41-45, M
Mine never bothered to
chillout17 · 31-35, M
Yea kinda of
More common in some cultures than in others. In mine it would be seen as meddling.

HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
Arranged situation maybe..Indian culture still do
Renaci · 36-40
Yeah it's kind of a stereotype in some places. So pretty normal. Especially depending on location.
