Kids complaining they’re bored?

Top | New | Old
sassy1 · 46-50, F
I’d be outside drinking from the water hose and chasing fire flies - those were the good ol days
Mindful · 56-60, F
Love and yes did this and more!!! Hide and seek clean version of cops and robbers, green light red light, frisbee football, baseball in the large field near by. Skating, pogo stick, lemon drop, riding bikes, skateboarding, swimming in a PUBLIC pool. Tree climbing could be done alone or with friends!!! @sassy1
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Mindful we played all the same stuff!
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
Why when I was a kid we amused ourselves with rocks! We are sounding like our grandparents lol
MarineBob · 56-60, M
go play be home before the street lights come on
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@sassy1 me too! It was like our own little haven! Every house on our court had kids my age so there was always someone to play with. In winter, the snowplow would pile the snow up in one big pile about 10 feet high and that was where we had so much fun
sassy1 · 46-50, F
@Jenny1234 fun! We never got that much snow but that does sound awesome
Mindful · 56-60, F
@sassy1 awesome!
th3r0n · 41-45, M
Back then, everyone wasn’t so broke

Could go out and go skating or go eat or many other things and people had personalities because they weren’t just on technology all day
@th3r0n That’s an interesting statement. As I think back to being a kid, the most fun we had never cost a dime. Which was good since my parents raised us on very little and struggled to make ends meet. I feel like, when money starts buying happiness, that’s when childhood ends.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
@Pinkstarburst I can understand that and tend to agree, but I think the fact that people had personalities and did not stick their face in technology all day is something we can agree on
Tminus6453 · M
the 80's did have some home video games and arcades.... the 70's on the other hand only had 4 channels and no videogames unless you were lucky enough to have PONG
@Tminus6453 I’m a firm believer that interpretive dance was invented by a 70’s kid having to be the extended tv antenna for their dad.
My kids know to NOT say that here... cause I will find them something to do, which is mainly either housework or helping me around the farm. Lol
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Yes, it was always hard holding all those cards…. Btw, do you have the five of hearts
sassy1 · 46-50, F
@Spokeskitties75 go fish 😂
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@sassy1 @Spokeskitties75 this sounds like WAR! 🙃😈😁

Next game should be house of cards! 🤣
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
I grew up on the Quebec border so we would have to resort to watching movies in French.
foot ball. Climbing trees. Bike rides. How times have changed
JestAJester · 31-35, M
Honestly I wish we didn't have all of that. Sure it'd be hard for me to adjust, but finally a reason for friends to actually go out and have a good time
Punches · 46-50, F
@JestAJester We had video games in the 80's but they kind of sucked until the late 80's.
Kids did play out a lot more.
JestAJester · 31-35, M
@Punches I use to in high school. My buddies and i would go to the park and battle each other with homemade foam swords and such. god i miss that
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
When I was growing up there were three TV channels and one TV. I loved being outdoors as much as I could . . anything to avoid watching my parents' choice of TV! 😊
smiler2012 · 61-69
that is the trouble with kids today they lack imagination compared to earlier generation. not always political correct but kept us amused especially during the long summer holidays we had [jenny1234]
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
You had 12 channels?! I only had 4 growing up and didn't even get the internet till 1998. And that was for the town and not cause we were broke.
I miss being an indestructible kid.
Magenta · F
Right?! And yet I was never bored growing up.
Magenta · F
Isn't it ironic that there are more inventions and technology and hundreds of ways to be "entertained" now, yet boredom seems rampant. Technology has not improved some things and can actually be a detriment in some ways.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Doing puzzles could do them some good, tbh.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
Nah, we got the paradox of choice
Northwest · M
Or going out to the mall to get high with friends. 😂
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Northwest Or throwing crab apples at cars
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@JimboSaturn I did that too. We also threw mud pies at cars
Or the 70s when mama said.... Go out and play. 🤭
brendaS · 51-55, F
Punches · 46-50, F
I learned real quick not to say I was bored because my step mom would make some snark remark.
BBrendan · 46-50, M
@Punches That is so true. Some years ago, a girl in my work place asked me what I was doing. I stupidly said nothing. Next thing she grabbed a passing floor manager (who I had avoided for about 20 minutes) and said “Torrence hasn’t got anything to do.” If looks could kill she’d be dead.
Punches · 46-50, F
@BBrendan What in the dingling-dribble slurping hell was her deal? Was she trying to be the kiss-ass of the month by doing that? I wasn't even there but it pisses me off that someone would be so quick to throw someone under the bus.

But yeah, one has to make up some BS really quick when asked what they are doing.

When I am at work and they ask what i am doing I just say, "I am trying to read my favorite forum, thank you!"
BBrendan · 46-50, M
@Punches I think she was so dim she didn’t know what she was doing. That and kissing arse. I know she fancied me too but there was no chance after that.
Ontheroad · M
I don't get it - I can't remember being bored... except on a long car ride and even then, I'd bug the hell out of my siblings.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
During the 80s, kids did have Atari and Nintendo but technology was still limited back then. Tell your kids to go outside and ride their bikes for a while.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Barefooter25 we had Atari in the early eighties. I actually did make my kids go outside and play and call for friends and ride bikes. We didn’t get video games for them until they were in jr high and They were only allowed on video games on weekends when they were younger.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Last week Rogers was down and I had no internet, tv or phone service from Friday morning to Saturday night. My kids didn’t know what to do with themselves
BBrendan · 46-50, M
I only got 3 channels. There was a fourth channel but the picture wasn’t great.

I give my kid more chores to do ...funny how he won't complain about being bored after that
They had Nintendo/Atari though :P

@nedkelly That sound will ring in my ears to the grave!
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
God damn do kids not know how to go to the playground or read a book anymore? I don't ever remember being bored when I was a brat, sure there was the rise of Halo, Counter Strike, Forza and etc but if my friends were out and about I'd be out of the house in a flash!
In the 80s there was at least HBO. They would’ve really hated the 60s, when color tv and UHF were new.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard I never had hbo until 2019 lol
@Jenny1234 I remember watching “NightHawks” on it in 1982.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard Americans had so many more cable channels than we did. I saw advertisements for hbo and may other channels but we never had them and then when they did come out (I think after the 1990’s if I’m not mistaken), you had to pay for the
Chickie · F
When I was a kid all I wanted to do was play outside

Exactly

Ungrateful Bratz lol!
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Things are so different now
BBrendan · 46-50, M
@iamonfire696 Haha. I thought I was so sophisticated burning my own CDs then playing them in my car.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@BBrendan OMG same haha
BBrendan · 46-50, M
@iamonfire696 Those were the days haha. I think things were more precious then.
