We were going for a vacation out of town and though I usually drive myself when on long drives, this time we took our driver as I was under some medication and likely to not be at my most alert.
4 hours out of the city, we hit a bicycle in a crowded village market. The bicycle fellow flew in the air and landed on our car windscreen, crashing it. I quickly got a local vehicle and leaving my wife and young daughter in the crashed car with the driver, rushed the victim to the local hospital and got him admitted and into safe hands. Returning to the car, i found a large crowd, angry amd noisy, surrounding the car and trying to escalate the situation.
We locked ourselves into the car and tried to drive slowly away. But the crowd was getting angry and prevented us from moving. Some were trying to open the back seat door where my wife and daughter sat. It was only a matter of time before someone would break the window glass. My wife was hugging my daughter tight and pleading with me to do something. I got out of the car and tried to mediate with the mob and talk reason while asking the driver to slowly start moving the car. But he was too scared. Meanwhile i could pacify those i could engage in conversation, but others on the other side of the car could be heard banging the car body and shouting abuses.
As traffic had stopped, luckily the police arrived and offered to take me and my family to the local police station where a portion of the crowd followed but in a relatively desciplined manner. Later we reached a compensation settlement, the crowd dispersed and we managed to return home under police escort later that evening.
Meanwhile the car was totally damaged by the crowd and the police informed that it was very foolhardy of me to waste time taking thr victim to hospital. I should have straightaway driven the car into the police station. The mob was quite capable of molesting the wife and daughter as i was away. Luckily due to my appearance as an army man, no one dared once i arrived back.
That was real scary and i feel we managed to escape getting assulted and worse. By a very narrow margin.

years ago in my late teen travel one place to another through sea route in a small boat and due to knock of thunder all equipment of navigation damaged and boat moving without control aimlessly for hours , everybody in the boat were so scared as any moment high waves might make destruction but luckily a cargo ship saw us and help us to manage the repair and guide us to our journey

@lonelyloner You describe it so well! Are you afraid of boats now?
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
@Mamapolo2016 nope but high waves still remind me my nervousness

Well, probably, for most of us, driving or riding in a vehicle is probably the most dangerous situation.
But there have been a few. My brother and I got his Honda civic stuck in the sand at a wildlife preserve. I’d already fainted from the heat once and he decided to go for help, while I waited in the wildlife preserve for his return.
In college, one of the girls in my dorm dated a felonious lunatic and I spent a very long hour in my living room with the couple, afraid to run and afraid to stay. A couple of years later, he was gunned down by police on the hospital steps.
But the most dangerous was when I was sixteen and a new guy moved into the community. He was 20 and I was a sheltered 16 and no match for him. I was furious when they refused to let me date him. I introduced him to my best friend. She got pregnant, they got married and he isolated and abused her viciously. She finally ran away to a distant state and was found less than two years later hanging from a light fixture in her new apartment that she raved happily about in a letter. He was never charged, but I am sure he killed her.

@Teslin Well, one has to do SOMETHING in 73 years!
Teslin · M
@Mamapolo2016 You definitely dodged a bullet at 16 !!
Mamapolo2016 · F
@Teslin Yes, I did - or my parents dodged it for me. And I had confidence that if they HAD said yes to the date, my family would have moved heaven and earth to rescue me. My friend’s parents were - different.
It became known that the man in question had a long record of sexual assault and battery, with an attempted murder charge. Ten years later I was watching TV…one of those shows like “Wanted” and there he was.
I called my parents to thank them again.

Hmmm! Nearly falling out of the back seat of a car.
A friend of mine insisted I get into the car of her boyfriend friend with my friend so they could drop us home after a birthday meal.
This young guy was driving like a flipping idiot dodging traffic on the motorway.
I felt the most unsafe.
Anyways as we got closer to my friend's home none of us realised roadworks were happening near this clock tower.
Upon realisation this guy took a really sharp turn and the back door flew open on my friends side.
For some reason she went flying so I had to pull her back in but I couldn't get a proper grip as my seatbelt was holding me back. I literally had to undo mine to be able to grab her.
As soon as we arrived I pretty much kissed the ground.
The was the beginning of the ending of my friendship with these girls.
My life is damn precious

The ex had probably been doing drugs.
He came home from work, and was acting in a very scary way. He went upstairs without speaking or looking at me, with such a look on his face, and it got quiet. I crept up the stairs to see what he had been doing when I heard him go into the bathroom, and he had his shotgun out on the bed in the bedroom, and the ammo.
I thought quite honestly that he had gone crazy, and that he planned to shoot me and my son. I ran into the bedroom, grabbed the gun, and ran downstairs. I found my son, and told him get out of the house, and don't come back in till I come to get you. I wasn't thinking clearly because I was so scared. All I could think of to do was to lock myself in the bathroom downstairs.
The ex came downstairs a little while later, and started pounding on the bathroom door, yelling at the top of his lungs, "GIVE ME MY GUN!!! OPEN THIS DOOR!!! GIVE ME MY GUN!!!"
I was terrified. I started shaking like a leaf. Finally, after about 15 minutes of the screaming, he started to sound calmer...and then I finally opened the door.
I KNEW he had been doing drugs years later. But at the time, I didn't understand why he was acting so crazy. He took his gun from me, and in a VERY weird voice he told me that he needed his gun because the Iraqis were going to invade, and that he planned to shoot them when they showed up.
Then he changed his story, and in a very fake way he told me that he had only gotten the gun out because he wanted to teach ME how to load it in an emergency.

@4meAndyou it must have needed lots of strong nerves to open that bathroom door that he had been banging for so long. Anything could have happened! And what if he had broken the door!!! Very scary. Good riddence from the ex.

@WandererTony When he was really screaming loudly, I didn't dare to open the door. Only when his voice started to calm down could I do it.

It may be when I was jumped by 2 guys years ago. They attacked me from behind and kicked me in the head repeatedly when I hit the floor. I ended up with a concussion.
But it could also be the time I almost drowned in a lake, or any of my ODs.
There have been some other dangerous situations but those are the ones that caused, or came closest to causing, actual physical harm to me.

Narrowly avoiding being struck by a speeding cab on a crosswalk back in 1982 - a bystander shouting a warning was really all that saved me.

When I was single I met up with a guy online who was secretly a pedophile. He didn’t have a lot going for himself so we never dated but he became a friend I’d chat to from time to time. Then eventually I hadn’t heard from him in a while when I googled him, the news articles came up. Yikes.

In the 90s just before the Rodney King riots, I was staring down the gun barrels of 2 Los Angles police officers in the middle of the night in South Central LA after being pulled over and accused of having someone (a drug buyer) run from my car. They searched my car looking for crack. They could have planted some - I was too dumb and too scare to know better.
