So sorry, Scandinavia has free funerals paid by the state church. It's part of taxes. I think its a great idea.

The American way of death is ridiculous and a marketing rip off. Never feel guilty for cutting corners wherever you can. Since my dad was a vet. he had a military burial. I was told for an extra $50.00 they would play a tape recording of Taps, that was SO ridiculous I laughed right in the funeral director's face. l (My dad would have been rolling with laughter too)

I already dug my shallow grave. Just drag me there. Pardon my smell

@SW-User LMAO! I love your attitude and sense of humor.

People are just dying to get into the ground. So there's always high demand.

Then they want to tax death. I’m sorry you are going through this. It’s like when you are ill, the system expects much of you when you are at your lowest point.

@PatKirby they have a law in Oklahoma that caskets for sale here must be manufactured here. That’s part of the racket. If a person wants to go out of state and buy one they can’t stop them but when you are making funeral arrangements it’s too late for that. They’ll also tell people at the funeral homes that’s it’s a law that you have to have a liner for grave adding extra expenses. But my daughter’s sociology class had a section where they learned about these laws and there’s none that require a liner for a grave.

That's terrible and borderline abusive. The funeral home I went to for my mother was very professional but I clearly noticed they position themselves to make money from your grief. Especially when you are at your weakest, thus they can maximize their profits from death through grief of the living. Everything's so expensive. Non-stop revenue because people will always die, providing a constant flow of dollar$. Yeah, it's a racket. I don't recall it always being this way. I recall this thing called respect for the dead. I guess those days are gone, replaced by the daze of the death industry.

@PatKirby have noticed more people having graveside services or just memorials after they can get everyone collected together.

I totally agree. I have left instructions to use the electric chainsaw fit me in pieces into the wheeliebin and let the council deal with the body. But I bet they dont.. So I have enough cash stashed to pay for the whole thing.. I figure thats all I can do..
deadgerbil · 26-30
God forbid if the person doesn't have life insurance too. The bills just add to the grieving process.
