The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. That’s what I believe. The cure for gun related violence lies within the person. It takes a human to pull the trigger.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Sarin just stop already before you appear any more ignorant than you already are. Here’s a free lesson.

There are 3 branches of our government. The Legislative branch, which is composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate. They write, debate and pass legislation to be put into law. The Executive branch, the President, reviews the bills sent to him by the Legislative branch and decides to sign them into law or veto them. If he vetos them they are sent back to the Legislature may vote them into law with a 2/3 majority in each chamber. The 3rd and final branch is the Judicial branch, the Supreme Court. Their purpose is determine if any law, Federal or State, violates the constitution. If the law does it is struck down and removed.

Please, I implore you, don’t reply again. I’m trying help you save face and not look so uneducated.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@JesseInTX Save face to who, I don't know why you're being so insecure you'd worry what others think instead of thinking rationally. And by the way, I absolutely know how the federal government works(I'm a major in government at UT) so shut the fuck up. Gun violence is an epidemic and we need laws to regulate some things. Many loopholes to close. You can bitch and moan all you want but no one expects you have the balls to do anything about it. And if you do it will be the end of your life. Just stay in your cave and echo chambers and let the adults handle the big issues while you stick your barrels up your own ass repeatedly.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Sarin wow I’m appalled that my alma matter is turning out below average intelligence and ignorance. Along with liberal hostility. Hopefully you’re the exception rather than the rule.

Livingwell · 61-69, M
As a gun owner, I see that there is an all or nothing mindset on both sides. The current situation is not sustainable. On the other hand passing a bunch of feel good laws will do nothing. Look at the effectiveness of DUI and restraining order laws. How effective have they been? How many deaths have been prevented? Are we passing laws to take away cars and domestic relationships? What about smoking? Any reduction of cancer there? California has the strictest laws in the country. Chicago has a gun ban. How many shootings occurred this year? Did the laws help? No. The list goes on. And then there are extremists that believe in open carry near schools, etc to demonstrate their rights. Are they clueless? I can jump off a cliff but do I do it? Common sense must prevail.

We need to take the emotional part out of the discussion and come up with reasonable solutions that won’t cost an arm and a leg to enforce and that are realistically enforceable. I’m all for reasonable rules and restrictions. Not for hysteria when things like alcohol kill and affect society at a much higher level yet we seem to ignore it. And now we legalized pot. 🤦🏻‍♂️
Sarin · 26-30, M
@Livingwell To be a patriot is to understand the fear both sides of the aisle have and do what you can assuage those fears while simultaneously working to make real differences and positive changes. I think that unless there is no other option a patriot takes his
or her fellow americans feelings into consideration as opposed to the brutes who wanted to storm the North Carolina Capitol because it's people voted for gun regulation.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
@Sarin I think that is what I’m suggesting above.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@Livingwell It is. I feel we're on the same page.
It's not as bad As it's made out to be. Just enforce existing laws and actually blame the shooters.

I would like to see people make better choices. There should be more done to teach people how to handle conflict and how to cope with troublesome feelings without resorting to violence.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@midnightrose Do you think we should focus more on mental health? I believe we should.
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
Ban gun ownership totally .
SW-User
@Rhodesianman The bad guys will always have guns... we shall protect ourselves...
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Rhodesianman In addition, people underestimate the power of groups like the NRA. It's almost impossible to pass anything.
SW-User
@ChrisNBillings you better believe we would!
Well, a start would be to go into the heavily crime infested areas in cities and go after illegal gun sellers, owners and users. Why have the administrations that decry gun violence not done that? Then review the Patient Confidentiality issue, as there are possibly identified and known individuals with mental health issues who have access to weapons. Stop hassling and not cooperating with ICE who as a Federal agency, may have extensive knowledge on people illegally here with a history of gun use and violence, which might be included in my first point.
raysam363 · 31-35, F
Going against the grain: people need to step up as well. Guns don't magically kill people, and those that want to kill will find a way. Of course I live in Baltimore and, well, thuglife is a motto.
Joker2019 · 31-35, M
@raysam363 Well said.
SW-User
Get rid of the guns
Joker2019 · 31-35, M
@SW-User That won't solve anything. People would find and use something else. Do you not know how any of this works? People in the shithole known as the UK have to deal with being stabbed or acid attacks. That could happen here if guns here are banned. Plus, banning something will just make people want it even more. That's why the black market exists. People would still find a way to get guns anyway. I think we should focus and look more to help people with mental illnesses if anything. Because people love to just ignore mental health and pretend mental illnesses don't exist.
curiosi · 61-69, F
Ban SSRI drugs, they make people violent.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@curiosi I've been on one for about 12 years, and I'm not violent. Stopping it would have horrible consequences for me. Is there any proof that they cause people to become violent?
curiosi · 61-69, F
@xIdentity There is black box warnings on them. If you are really interested this book explains a lot.

xIdentity · 36-40, M
@curiosi I'll be glad to take a look. I've heard people blame anything and everything for gun violence, but this is a first for me.
States to reimburse shooting ranges for training
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@questionWeaver That's the first time I've heard that. I think that's a great idea.

Ban all guns. Caught in possession then a minimum of 30 years in the slammer.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
I think if you make bullets more expensive, people will think a lot harder about firing their weapons
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@TinyViolins Many people make their own ammunition.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@xIdentity That still takes time and effort. Maybe enough time for cooler heads to prevail. We won't eradicate gun violence, but if we can put the right barriers in place, we can go a long ways to reducing it
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@TinyViolins It's a step in the right direction.
Paliglass · 41-45, F
I'd like to see gun related violence directed at the government for not doing its job.
Joker2019 · 31-35, M
I think we should look more to help people with mental illnesses. Because banning guns is stupid. People will still get guns elsewhere even if guns are banned. That's called the black market. People love to pretend mental illnesses are not a real thing or aren't a problem and that is disgusting. We should help these people so that they don't become insane and go around shooting people. The UK has to deal with acid attacks and stabbings. If guns here got banned, then may as well ban cars and ban cutlery too since those can also be used to kill people. May as well ban screwdrivers, too.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
In March last year New Zealand suffered a mass shooting.

The gutless white-supremacist piece of trash used a military-style assault rifle.

After the murders it took us just 16 days to ban all semi-automatic weapons and all military-style assault rifles, and to introduce harsh penalties for anyone found in possession of such weapons.

The government bought the weapons from the owners in a nation-wide buy-back scheme
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@newjaninev2 I've yet to hear a decent argument for why people should be allowed to own those.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@xIdentity Man’s heart is in his weapons

(woman’s heart is in her shoes)

@newjaninev2 It appears many value their guns more than the lives of others.

@SW-User what am I caught out on?

Hang on, let me just make some shit up real quick...

When I was 16 I saw alot of guns in this country. One day, being young and desperate I decided to rob a liquor store but on my way in I had a sudden change of heart and not only robbed it but terrorised the guy so he couldn't phone the police by fucking him up the arse with the hand gun. Then I went and sat somewhere till somebody found and I lived my life like nothing ever happened. The end. The moral of the story is if I want to make stuff up I can but it wouldn't be:

"Statistically you're more likely to get stabbed in London than you are to get injured in the army"

That's just not something I would consider interesting enough to make up 🤷

Go pree my profile some more and hit me back with a couple more jabs you think will make your argument against statistics more vaild.

@SW-User oh so you agree we're a stabbing country because we don't have guns.

The only difference between us and America is that the May day Riots would be a whole different affair if we had easier access to guns. End of 😂🤷

Water gun violence
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@MartinTheFirst Preach! There are too many water guns on the streets.
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
The real problem is white Americans, they should be banned, if you take their guns off them they will use knives instead.
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
@xIdentity I'm not saying it's a perfect solution, here in the uk we banned guns years ago it made zero difference. Guns aren't the problem.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Johnblackthorn How do we ban white Americans?
Johnblackthorn · 56-60, M
@xIdentity I don't know, maybe the few remaining native Americans have an opinion on it.
