The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. That’s what I believe. The cure for gun related violence lies within the person. It takes a human to pull the trigger.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@JesseInTX Nah, that's not gonna work for the majority. All of our rights are regulated and the 2nd amendment is no exception. Two branches of the government can interpret any amendment to mean anything and regulation is inevitable. They'll argue that nowhere in the constitution does it say the people have a right to own semi automatic rifles or 50 cal guns, and they'll specifically refer to the line in the 2nd amendment that says "Well regulated". You seem to have selective memory about what the 2nd amendment actually says and it doesn't matter how much support you think you have on this website, clear majorities of Americans favor more gun regulation. And they'll vote for it like they did in North Carolina. And when they do the question becomes whether or not you're willing to defy democracy and risk your life to fight a battle you couldn't possibly hope to win.

@Sarin Isn't that the entire premise of what an amendment is used for?
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity What do you mean?
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Sarin The Constitution was never intended to remain the same forever.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity That's right. But it's a stretch to argue that anyone would be changing the constitution with gun regulation. If anything they'd be interpreting the amendment and not ignoring the part of it that specifically says "A well regulated militia".
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Sarin I'm not arguing that, but people faint at the slightest hint of gun regulation.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity Look to the recent changes made in North Carolina, a supposedly notorious anti-progress state that elected a bunch of Democrats. They passed sweeping gun reform and it made national headlines.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Sarin That's what you get when you elect Democrats.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity Right. And that's what the people voted for. Democracy in action. Truth is that if we held a national referendum on the matter, gun nuts would be wiped out.
SW-User
@Sarin We have them and we use them! Dont believe that? Might better come see if we don’t...
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Sarin Did those Democrats run on that, or did they hide their intentions during the campaign?
Sarin · 26-30, M
@SW-User We use em too, in all kinds of calibers, shapes, and sizes. You're wrong to assume all or even most gun owners are with you on this.
SW-User
@Sarin I assume nothing! I know we have them and we use them! As I said, come find out!!!!!!
Sarin · 26-30, M
@SW-User They won't ban assault rifles though if that's what you're worried about. Even in california they're still legal to own. Liberals like their guns too. It's about common sense shit, saving lives. You can't see the forest for the trees and that's too bad. Now get the fuck out of the way.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@SW-User That's nothing short of childish. "Come get ya some" isn't really adding anything to this discussion.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity He clings to his guns because he thinks they make him who he is. What a snowflake. They're not gonna come for your guns unless you've been red flagged for making threats. So what's the problem???
SW-User
@xIdentity I am not going to fight with you. I know what I’m talking about and the discussion is closed! We HAVE THEM and IF you Don’t believe me come and find out! Bye!!!
Sarin · 26-30, M
@SW-User No one's saying you don't have them. We're asking ourselves if you should have them if you're on social media making threats to people like most mass shooters do. This is about saving lives, not you.
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@SW-User This isn't your discussion to open or close. You just decided to jump in. I live in Alabama. I'm well aware of what you have. I would, however, like to know what you mean by "come and find out." Can you elaborate on that?
xIdentity · 36-40, M
@Sarin It appears we've been blocked. ☹️
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity That's right. I'm from Texas and most gun owners I know feel there are too many loopholes.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@xIdentity Whatta Snowflake. No matter. Some people just don't want to know. We have to be ready for them. I try to be.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Sarin lets get a few facts straight. First it is you who has selective memory or a lack of knowledge of the 2nd Amendment. It says “
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. That means the militia is “regulated” not the right to own a gun. Next it wasn’t North Carolina that attempted to pass those laws it was Virginia. And it definitely made national news as over 180 counties and cities have declared themselves sanctuaries for gun owners. The Sheriffs and police chiefs have said they won’t enforce them. Major portions were shot down in the final vote in the assembly.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@SW-User damn right. And I am an excellent marksman.
Sarin · 26-30, M
@JesseInTX Marksmanship. Doesn't take much. You better believe it's going down. And by the way, most cops are fascist assholes anyway, not surprised they ignored the results of an election (some cops would break ranks though and respect their country enough to fight with progressives). It may take some violence but most Americans want change and they'll fight for it. As for what the constitution says, it says anything our representatives say it means. Just look at Virginia. The only real argument is overcoming the corruption in this country to attain fair elections where clear majorities vote like they did in Virginia.
