Pretty much at any young age at the beginning of adulthood, but taking out a credit card without fully understanding how the credit system works.
buriedalive · 46-50, M
Well for me it was getting involved with substances off and on for ages and then not saving for retirement until I was in my 40s. Save save save save save people start that 401k asap.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
Not settling down. I was thinking I’m way too young to start a family. But I think it’s better to start early as long as you found the right partner.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@4thdimensiondream If people want kids, it's not a bad idea to think about having grandparents in their life too. Or grandparents who still have enough energy to take care the grandchildren now and then.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@CrazyMusicLover exactly where I was going.

Following the 'boomer playbook'.
Steady job✅
Marry ✅
Buy house ✅
Try and save ✅
Have children ✅
Then
Company closes😳
Job changes🫤
Mortgage repayment goes through the roof 🫣
Separate 😞
Move away to earn more 🫨
Become sole parent 😳
Lose home 😖
Start again 🤬

@Picklebobble2 I am the last year of the Boomers and I own two houses outright.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Musicman Yeah I think that's the point
Baby Boomers. Last generation to be able to buy their homes outright without having to resort to insurance policies or remortgage.
Something no other generation is likely to manage

@Picklebobble2 You must be fun at parties 🙄
I see you like in the UK. Here in the US, things aren't quite as depressing as on your little island. We have our issues, but wow. Sorry your life is so miserable.

Not traveling
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@HisMountainGirl It's not for everybody in their 20s. I was too anxious to properly enjoy it then. I say, fix your health first and then enjoy life.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Gathering bad habits that are hard to break and affect physical health in a bad way. Like smoking, drinking alcohol, gambling, way too much screen time, sedentary lifestyle, taking loans for things they objectively don't need without any real financial security plan how to pay them off...
Stressing over things people say you should do and doing them just because other people say so and not because it's something you truly want and need.
Stressing over things people say you should do and doing them just because other people say so and not because it's something you truly want and need.
From what I see, every “mistake” I made was necessary to my personal growth and development, so are they actually mistakes?
Wasting money on alcohol and drugs.
Not travelling more.
Spending it with a man that was emotionally dead.
Worrying about being fat and unlovable.
Pretending to be someone I am not.
Needed it all to where I am now.

The poshest car in the work's car park, they only use it to drive to work because they can't afford a life. Working to pay for a car that they only use for work, but at least it's the newest one there.

@Ambroseguy80 True, life doesn't always turn out the way one plans.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
@Sutten I don’t know too many people who are living “happily ever after”. 🫢

@Ambroseguy80 Sad but true.

Marrying the wrong person. That can mess up their life for a very long time.
